Reports of a TV show titled Dead Space, based on the video game of the same name, with Pedro Pascal playing the lead, have been making the rounds on the internet. Notably, the news is not true, and the actor himself has not announced any new project with this name so far.
On April 21, 2025, Yoda Bby Aby took to their Facebook page to share a poster of the series, which shows that it would be released through Max. The photo also featured Pascal in a robot-like suit with a helmet in his hand. A release date of September was mentioned below the poster, adding that it would be released with six episodes.
The caption reads that the main character of Dead Space, portrayed by Pedro, will be an engineer who gets trapped inside a haunted USG Ishimura, where the dead people have taken the form of Necromorphs. The post continued by revealing more details of the show as it reads:
“Directed by horror maestro James Wan, each episode plunges you into a nightmarish abyss of blood-soaked corridors and mind-shattering terror, as the Marker’s curse threatens to consume all of humanity. Dare to watch as survival becomes a gruesome fight against the darkness – streaming this fall!”
Yoda Bby Aby is a page that shares satire and false news, and this is also mentioned in their bio. Most of the posters featured on their page are not real, and they include titles of projects that have yet to enter development or have not been planned by any production company so far.
The Dead Space poster is also one of them, which eventually led to rumors about a new show. Although it is fake, netizens were spotted sharing their excitement in the comments section of the social media post, where a few people praised Pascal for taking up the role.
Dead Space movie: Latest updates and other details explained
While the news of a film based on the game was revealed to be false, the reports of the same project have been trending on social media for some time. A report by The Escapist magazine in January 2023 claimed that director John Carpenter was reportedly willing to do a Dead Space movie.
However, Carpenter addressed the same in an interview with Variety at the time, saying that it was a rumor and he had no idea how or who was spreading it. He said that he is a fan of video games and continued:
“I was down looking at the new digital camera, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a “Dead Space” film. That just went around, and everybody said, ‘Oh, when are you gonna do it?’ I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved.”
Although John added that he was never approached for the film, he clarified that he was involved with a new version of the video game, which was supposed to be released soon.
While a live-action film is unlikely to happen for now, an adult animated film titled Dead Space: Downfall came out a long time ago in 2008. However, the film was not released in theatres. It was available directly on home video, where popular faces such as Nika Futterman and Keith Szarabajka gave their voices to the characters.
It was followed by Dead Space: Aftermath around three years later. Both films failed to receive a positive response.
