There isn’t any official confirmation as to whether the series Indian Matchmaking is scripted or not. However, Nadia Jagessar who starred in the show claims that the show is 100% real.
Indian Matchmaking is an Indian reality Television series created by Smriti Mundhra for Netflix. The show’s first season was released back in 2020 and it attracted the audience in no time. The show went on to be one of the most-watched shows on Netflix and was at the top of the “Top 10” chart globally. Due to the success of the first season, the show was then renewed for another season and then also for a third season.
The third season was released in April 2023 and the show revolves around the lives of a few chosen Indians who reside in the US, and how they seek the help of well-known fellow Indian matchmaker, Sima Taparia. Sima Taparia who also is famously called Sima Aunty, makes it her life’s mission to make sure her clients on the show meet their perfect match and settle down with them.
Unlike other reality TV shows, which are often scripted or edited, the stars of this reality TV series claim that the show is all real. However, there were certain cringe-worthy scenes in season two of the show that made the audience think whether the show was scripted.
What did Nadia Jagessar have to say about Indian Matchmaking being scripted?
When the rumors of the show being scripted made headlines, Nadia Jagessar who is the breakout star from seasons one and two, took to Instagram to rubbish the scripted rumors after the series first aired. She wrote, "The story was told in such a genuine way and I loved how real everything was.” She continued, “So many people asked if this was staged or scripted or fake in any way and I can assure you it wasn’t (at least not from my end)!”

What did Vinay Chadha have to say about Indian Matchmaking being scripted?
Vinay Chadha who was shown to be Nadia Jagessar’s love interest in season one has some different opinions about the show. Chadha claimed that the show was real, however, there were certain parts that were edited. During his talk with E!, Vinay Chadha said, "What you saw in that episode, on our first date, that was very real. We hit it off so well and it was so genuine and pure. That was one of the best first dates I ever had. And from that we actually did end up dating for about two months." Vinay also stated that the scenario in which he fails to show up to a pre-arranged dessert rendezvous with Nadia was not true to life.
Vinay Chadha told E!, "Unfortunately for me, it got edited in a way that wasn't nearly as true to myself and true to what actually happened." He explained the actual event by saying, "We were supposed to hang out after and I did text her that I had a family emergency.
"She wasn't happy about it. I can see that she lost confidence in me, so I actually got her flowers and I ordered her [cookies]. And then [weeks later] we were planning to go see Toy Story 4. That morning, I cancelled because I had a fever,” He added. Chadha concluded by saying, "Overall, the reaction from her wasn't that pleasant. I tried my hardest to effectively communicate to her, but I think at that point the relationship was on its way down."
