Mackenyu Arata is a Japanese-American actor as while he was born in Los Angeles, his parents are Japanese.

Mackenyu Arata became famous for his role as Arata Wataya in the Chihayafuru live-action trilogy, which earned him the Japan Academy Newcomers of the Year Award in 2017. He has been in movies and TV shows since 2005. He appeared in Buzz, also known as So-On: The Five Oyaji, and the TV movie Yo nimo Kimyō na Monogatari.

In 2015, he had smaller roles in the TV series The Kindergarten Detective, The Hatsumori Bemars, and Yume o Ataeru. He became more famous in Japan after acting in the Kamen Rider Drive series and its movie Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future.

He also appeared in the prequel miniseries Kamen Rider Drive: Movie Roadshow Commemoration! 1 Minute Stories as Eiji Tomari. In 2015, he did his first American films, Take a Chance and Tadaima. He even won a Best Actor award for Tadaima.

In January 2016, he performed in a Japanese musical called Boys Over Flowers: The Musical and starred in the two-part movie Chihayafuru, which came out in March and April 2016. That same year, he was in Shōjo (Little Girl). He also appeared in Knights of the Zodiac and in the Netflix series One Piece.
