Around 24 years after the release of Thirteen Ghosts, rumors related to a prequel series have started trending on social media. Notably, the reports have spread everywhere after Yoda Bby Aby shared a Facebook post with a poster. However, the news is not true.
On April 23, 2025, Yoda Bby Aby posted a photo on their page, which had the title of the prequel, Thirteen Ghosts Stories. A logo of Paramount+ also appeared below the picture, with the caption saying that the show was arriving in July this year on the streaming platform.
Apart from that, the post included some more information about the series, as it reads:
“Dive into the chilling world of Thirteen Ghosts Stories, a new 13-episode anthology series on Paramount+, where each episode unveils the haunting backstory of a ghost from the original Thirteen Ghosts film, reimagined by original director Steve Beck.”
In addition, the caption mentioned that it would include some popular faces among the main cast members and adapt the format of American Horror Story, another horror anthology series airing on FX.
Yoda Bby Aby’s announcement was a satire post, and they have also addressed the same in the bio, saying that the “page is 100% satire.” Furthermore, Paramount+ or director Steve Beck has also not confirmed anything about a prequel series from their side until now.
Thirteen Ghosts TV series was announced a long time ago: Latest updates and other details
The supernatural horror film came out back in 2001 and emerged as a cult classic over the years. Although a sequel was never planned or announced in any manner, Dark Castle Entertainment confirmed in August 2023 that the film is being adapted into a TV show.
A report by CBR stated at the time that the co-founder of Primordial Pictures, Patrick Mediate, also joined in alongside SFX supervisor Aaron McLane and Ashley Robinson, known for Fear the Walking Dead. The entire team was reportedly planning to approach Sony Pictures Television with the idea, which included 13 episodes.
The makers were also aiming to take certain elements from the 1960 film of the same name. CBR obtained a description about the Thirteen Ghosts TV series at the time, saying that it was a “re-imagining” of the film and continued:
“The ghost stories within each episode will have their own stylistic look and feel that will be explored and influenced by each individual director. This makes our ghost vignettes stand our stylistically as they set the theme for each episode.”
Dread Central reported the news earlier this month, sharing pictures from the show's pitch. Each episode was meant to focus on a different ghost, inspired by the 2001 film.
CBR added that the show planned to connect with viewers through an app that would let them see more ghosts. However, there have been no updates since.
Dark Castle Entertainment was also associated with Thirteen Ghosts at the time of release, and it failed to receive a positive response. The film featured popular faces in the lead, including Tony Shalhoub, Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Lillard, Shannon Elizabeth, and more.
