Jason Momoa is an American actor, producer, and model who was born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is best known for his roles as Khal Drogo in the HBO series Game of Thrones, and as Arthur Curry / Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe films. He has also appeared in other movies such as Conan the Barbarian, Braven, and See, a television series on Apple TV+. Momoa is known for his muscular physique, distinctive tattoos, and his long hair.
Early Life
Born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Momoa is the only child of Coni Lemke and Joseph Momoa. His father is of Native Hawaiian ancestry while his mother is of German, Irish, and Pawnee heritage. After his parents' divorce, Momoa moved with his mother to Norwalk, Iowa, where he was raised. He attended Norwalk High School, where he played soccer alongside Brandon Routh, and later, he enrolled at the University of Hawaii.
Career
Momoa began his acting career by auditioning for Baywatch Hawaii while living and working in Honolulu. He was cast as Jason Ioane and appeared in the series from 1999 to 2001. After his debut, he also appeared in Johnson Family Vacation, Stargate: Atlantis, and The Game. Momoa played the lead role of Conan the Barbarian in the 2011 movie adaptation, followed by his portrayal of Khal Drogo in HBO's Game of Thrones, which he secured thanks to his Haka performance during the audition.
In 2014, Momoa directed and co-wrote Road to Paloma, a thriller drama film, and starred in The Red Road as Phillip Kopus. He also landed the role of Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, first appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and the Aquaman solo film. Momoa reprised his role as Aquaman in Peacemaker and the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. In addition, he played the character of Duncan Idaho in the 2021 movie adaptation of Dune.
Other Ventures
Besides acting, Momoa has also worked as a model, director, writer, and producer. He has appeared in numerous commercials and was the face of the international clothing brand, Louis Vuitton. He directed and co-wrote Road to Paloma, which premiered at the 2014 Sarasota Film Festival, and was an executive producer of Frontier, a Canadian historical drama television series.
