26-year-old Luigi Mangione was charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 9, 2024, after being apprehended in Pennsylvania. Mangione has been the centre of attention on social media platforms after his mugshot was released on December 10, 2024, and some netizens have recently started calling on Kim Kardashian to defend him in the case of Thompson's murder.
According to a report by Hello Magazine dated July 2023, Kim Kardashian passed the baby bar exam in 2021, which refers to the first-year law students' examination. However, she is not officially qualified as a lawyer yet. Kim has been associated with multiple high-profile cases like advocating for the Menendez Brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents in 1989, and releasing Alice Johnson from a life sentence.
Internet users took to X to suggest that Kim Kardashian represent Luigi Mangione.
"kim kardashian should represent luigi mangione," tweeted one user.
"HEAR ME OUT KIM KARDASHIAN SHOULD HELP LUIGI MANGIONE," commented an X user.
"Somebody please contact kim kardashian and tell her to protect luigi mangione, he cannot go to jail," said another X user.
"@KimKardashian Free Luigi Mangione for us. Get us that pardon," wrote a netizen.
Additionally, netizens commented on the possibility of Kim Kardashian approaching Mangione herself, with some even comparing this case to that of O.J Simpson's, where Kim's father, Robert Kardashian, represented Simpson:
"I know one thing Luigi Mangione trial is going to be a circus! Kim Kardashian just might finally pass the bar. This about to be bigger than OJ Trial!" commented one netizen.
"I give @KimKardashian 48 hrs before she reaches out to Luigi for both a modeling contract and prison sentence reform," wrote another netizen.
"Chile I know Kim kardashian already on her way to see Luigi," said an X user.
"I don't even know if this is him": Luigi Mangione's lawyer comments on images of Brian Thompson's killer
According to a report by BBC dated December 11, 2024, police have found a positive match between the fingerprints of Mangione to that found at the scene of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's shooting. As per BBC's report dated December 12, 2024, Mangione's lawyer Thomas Dickey told local media that he hadn't seen any evidence implicating his client yet.
Mangione's lawyer said that he would plead not guilty to the firearms and forgery charges he faces in Pennsylvania. Additionally, while the 26-year-old suspect is charged with second-degree murder in New York, his lawyer has not commented on how Mangione would plead to the same.
Commenting on the CCTV footage and images of Brian Thompson's killer released by the police, Mangione's lawyer Thomas Dickey told News Nation:
"I don't even know if this is him."
Dickey also said they will be waiting for the government to bring forth evidence against Mangione.
"We're going to test those waters and give the government a chance to bring some evidence forward," Dickey stated.
Mangione is currently being held in a state prison in Pennsylvania with the possibility of extradition to face the second-degree murder charge in New York. According to a report by BBC dated December 12, 2024, officials said that the legal procedure for his extraction could possibly take over a month.
However, legal experts told the publication that Mangione's efforts to contest extradition to New York are likely to be unsuccessful but it could offer his defense a peek into the evidence that the state has against him.
