On December 9, 2024, police arrested Luigi Mangione as a "strong person of interest" in the killing of UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson as reported by Forbes on December 10, 2024. Mangione was arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania after a customer alerted the authorities about him.

Mangione was found in possession of a gun and handwritten document that indicated he had the mindset and motivation to kill Thompson as reported by the police. After his arrest, Luigi Mangione appeared for arraignment in a Pennsylvania court and was denied bail.

Images of Mangione went viral and netizens took to social media platforms like X to comment on how the eyebrows of the man seen in the CCTV footage as Thompson's killer released by the NYPD and Mangione don't match. Commenting on the same, an X user tweeted:

"It’s all in the eyebrows.. Luigi Mangione is the fall guy. Bookmark this."

Netizens compared a picture of the suspect in a cab and at Starbucks to a picture of Luigi Mangione, sharing their perspective on the same:

"funny tweet but, as with the starbucks guy and Luigi, cab guy's eyes and eyebrows don't match with luigi's either and these were taken one day apart." an X user commented
"Of course I could be wrong, but I don’t believe this is the same man. Luigi has big dark eyebrows, almost a unibrow in some pics. Dude on the right doesn’t." another X user mentioned
"These pictures are only a few days apart, so do Luigi's eyebrows grow super fast or something" an internet user stated comparing Mangione's mugshot to the suspect's surveillance image from Starbucks

Some internet users also shared their opinions comparing Mangione's mugshot and the CCTV photos:

"starting my own conspiracy theory that Luigi Mangione saw his image being circulated and decided to take advantage of it by whipping up a quick manifesto…" a netizen said
"I’m calling BS on Luigi being the shooter. His eyebrows give it away. It looks more like the Citibike research guy is the guy in the photo the NYPD released." another netizen commented, referring to the video of a guy who tracked Citibikes data from the day of Brian Thompson's shooting

Details about Luigi Mangione's arrest in Brian Thompson's killing explored

According to a report by BBC dated December 10, 2024, when police arrived to arrest Luigi Mangione, he showed them a fake New Jersey driver's license citing his name as Mark Rosario. However, when asked if he had been to New York recently, he began shaking and went quiet.

The court papers state that he shared his real name when he was told that lying about his name would result in an arrest. Additionally, Mangione said that he "clearly shouldn't have" lied when the police asked him about it.

As per the report, Mangione was in possession of a US passport, a "ghost gun" and a loaded magazine with six rounds of 9mm ammunition. He also had $10,000 in cash of which $2000 was foreign currency and Luigi Mangione disputed the said amount in court.

26-year-old Mangione is charged with second-degree murder in Manhattan and with three gun charges and forgery as mentioned by The New York Times on December 9, 2024.

Mangione attended a private all-boys school in Maryland as a teenager where he was a valedictorian and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. His LinkedIn account mentions that he worked as a data engineer in California wherein TrueCar confirmed his employment till 2023.
