Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 10 - Finale explained
In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 10, there's a kaiju battle, some emotional family reunions, and even a time jump of two years. It's set in 2017 and digs into what happens after Cate and May take a dive into Axis Mundi.
Cate and a younger Keiko's heartwarming reunion in the Hollow Earth adds to the story, and when the latter emotionally reconnects with her son and grandkids, it hits home with the audience. But when they finally make it back to Earth, they're greeted by masked soldiers and the long-awaited reunion with Kentaro.
Kong's appearance at the end of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has fans excited for more Monsterverse crossovers. Kentaro and Hiroshi's important work at Apex helps bring back Cate and May, merging human stories with the Titans. Keiko's discovery of time distortion in Hollow Earth gives audiences a mysterious ending.
Is Godzilla a Titan?
In the Monsterverse, Godzilla is the Alpha Titan, the big boss among all those ancient and powerful Titans. And he proved it by beating Kong in their showdown, showing everyone who's really in charge.
The Titans come from the mysterious Hollow Earth, and they're split into two groups: Protectors and Destroyers. Godzilla is part of the first group, along with Mothra, Kong, Behemoth, and Methuselah. They're known for keeping the Earth safe.
On the flip side, Destroyers like King Ghidorah, Rodan, Scylla, Camazotz, MUTO Prime, Mechagodzilla, and the Skull Devil, are all big threats. This whole hierarchy setup among the Titans shows how they come from ancient times and exist to protect Earth from evil.
Who runs Monarch in Godzilla?
In the Godzilla series, Monarch, the group responsible for studying and tracking huge unidentified creatures (MUTOs), is headed up by Ishirō Serizawa. Ishirō, who happens to be the son of Monarch's founder, Eiji Serizawa, steps up to the plate and acts as the main researcher.
Unfortunately, Ishirō passed away in 2019, which left a major gap in Monarch's leadership. Monarch has been around since the late 1940s to 1954, and they've had quite an interesting past. They even tried to get rid of Godzilla and the Shinomura with hydrogen bombs at Bikini Atoll in 1954.
The organization has been around for a long time, and its goals have changed over the years. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which comes before movies like Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, reveals some of the mysterious inner workings of Monarch.
Is there season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters?
As of January 12, 2024, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is still waiting to hear from Apple TV+ about its future. The streaming giant hasn't made an official announcement about renewing it for a second season.
But Chris Black, the showrunner, is still positive about it. He points out how well the show has been received on the platform. He told TVLIne:
"We feel we have more story to tell."
If Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 happens, it could explore what happened between Godzilla vs. Kong and The New Empire or deal with the aftermath of the latter. This would give fans more of the thrilling Monarch story they love.
Watch the first season on Apple TV.
