On November 30, the Sick New World festival announced that their upcoming Saturday, April 12, 2025, Las Vegas concert had been cancelled. The organization claimed that they took the drastic step after encountering “unforeseen circumstances.” Netizens have since taken to social media to respond to the same.
In their official announcement they claimed that they will not be able to put up next year’s festival. The exact reason for the cancellation was not made public at the time of writing this article. Sick New World announced that those who purchased tickets for the same from Front Gate Tickets would receive an automatic refund to the original method of payment in less than 30 days. They also added:
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated SNW fans who had made plans to join us for another cultural celebration of hard rock, goth, alternative and heavy music. Please stay tuned for further and future information regarding Sick New World.”
The lineup for the festival included multiple bands like Metallica, Linkin Park, Evanescence, The Flaming Lips, Acid Bath, Three Days Grace, Melvins, Testament, Refused, Terror, Kitty, Poison the Wall, Exodus, 311, Quicksand, Sponge, Dethklok, Orgy, Lebanon Hanover, Napalm Death, Seven Hours After Violent, Vision Video, Carcass, Arch Enemy, Dir En Grey, Erra, Stabbing Westward, Lacuna Coil, and more.
Netizens have since taken to social media platforms like Reddit to discuss the cancellation of the Sick New World festival. One netizen said:
Several others found the price of the tickets, which reportedly began at $400, steep. Others also opined that with the concert happening just for a day, fans would be unable to catch the performances of multiple favorite bands. Comments online read:
“Too many bands for 1 day, you end up missing half of what you want to see, plus the price was absurd,” a Reddit user said.
“The idea of trying to navigate all those performances over a single day sounded more exhausting than fun and with the wild prices, it just didn’t make sense to go,” a platform user said.
“Maybe people are just over spending 450 bucks for one day,” another netizen said.
Reddit was flooded with similar posts. Many were critical of the Sick New World festival happening just for a day, unlike other music festivals like Coachella, which happens across multiple days. Other comments read:
“400 gets you 4 days at lolla. This is insane,” a Reddit user said.
“One day. This is why it failed. Why is that a mystery to the f**king organizers,” a platform user said.
“People don’t have money,” a netizen commented.
Sick New World had given no explanation as to why all the performances were happening on a single day. Meanwhile, other reactions read:
“Most of these bands are already touring or have toured,” a Reddit user said.
“Maybe there’s too many damn festivals and people just want to go to regular gigs again,” a netizen said.
Tomahawk hinted at Sick New World’s cancellation ahead of the festival’s official announcement
Mike Patton’s Tomahawk band was supposed to play at the festival for the first time in over a decade. The band’s Trevor Dunn revealed in an interview with The Vinyl Guide that the festival was cancelled. As per Brooklyn Vegan, Dunn said in a segment of his interview with the outlet that was edited out:
“I’m probably not supposed to talk about this, but it's not happening. It’ll come out in the wash soon, but basically the festival is not happening. We had a whole tour, we had a two-week thing built around that, which we can’t do now because financially it doesn’t make any sense, so yeah, that’s not happening.”
The festival was also set to host Acid Bath’s first-ever show since the band’s 1997 breakup.
