Actor Alec Baldwin has stated that the story surrounding the fatal shooting on the set of the indie western Rust is far from over. Despite the dismissal of charges against him earlier this year, the actor revealed during the December 16 episode of David Duchovny's Fail Better podcast that there is still more to uncover about the tragic events of October 21, 2021. Speaking on the podcast, Baldwin said,

"There is more to come. The truth of what happened has never been told."

The actor, who faced significant scrutiny and legal battles since the shooting, expressed his determination to reveal what he claims are suppressed details about the incident.

"There's more to come, but the more to come is now my effort, and it's going to be undeniably a successful effort, to raise and to expose what really happened. I was counterpunching. I was on the defensive. I was being accused. I was being indicted," Baldwin explained.

The shooting resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza. Baldwin had been holding a prop gun that discharged a live round, sparking widespread debates over accountability and safety protocols in the film industry.

While Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger, investigations initially led to charges of involuntary manslaughter against him, though these were later dropped.

Alec Baldwin criticizes media and reflects on legal battles

Alec Baldwin criticized the media for their role in shaping public opinion about the incident. He claimed that the mainstream media suppressed stories that could have benefited him while amplifying those that could harm his reputation. Reflecting on the past three years, Alec Baldwin expressed frustration at being vilified.

"These last three years, people have just dined out. Because in this country, when people hate you on that level, they want three things. They want you to die, they want you to go to prison, and they want you canceled."

The legal proceedings surrounding the Rust shooting have been extensive. After the initial charges against Alec Baldwin were dropped, he was re-indicted by a grand jury in 2022 following a new investigation. However, the case was dismissed again in July 2023 when Baldwin's attorneys revealed that evidence had been concealed by the prosecution and the Santa Fe sheriffs.

The incident's fallout also implicated Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who faced charges of evidence tampering and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Baldwin emphasized that there is still more information to be disclosed.

"We have more s--- that's going to come out in ensuing legal filings and so forth," he said.

He suggested that much about the case remains unknown due to the lack of a full trial. The 30 Rock actor also reflected on the personal and professional consequences of the tragedy. Baldwin described the feeling of his experience as "being dead," explaining that it felt like roaming the earth while being invisible.

Despite the obstacles, he expressed optimism about his future, sharing that recent communications indicated positive developments in his career. Baldwin also noted that he is happy about this progress, especially because he has seven children to support. Alec Baldwin credited his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, for her unwavering support throughout his legal challenges.

"She is the most spiritually ascended human being I've ever met," he said. "She was frustrated. She was in pain. She suffered tremendously."

The couple shares seven young children together, with Baldwin also being a father to daughter Ireland Baldwin from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger.

Currently, Alec Baldwin is gearing up for several projects. He is slated to reprise his role as Jack Donaghy in a potential 30 Rock reunion, though details remain under wraps. Baldwin is also involved in an upcoming Broadway production, where he will star in Art, a revival of Yasmina Reza's acclaimed play.

Additionally, the actor has been linked to independent film projects set to begin filming in 2024, signaling his return to a more active career in entertainment.
