President-elect Donald Trump recently shared a photo of a map depicting Canada as a part of the United States. On Tuesday, January 7, 2024, he took to Truth Social to share the map.

Trump's post stems from his recent expansionist agenda, where he alleged he would use economic force to annex Canada and use military action to acquire the Panama Canal and Greenland.

As news of the post spread, internet users were quick to react. One wrote:

"See I always try to teach kids to color inside the lines.. he needs to practice."

Many noted that several Canadians were against the move, and everyone didn't support his policies. Here are some comments seen on X:

"Wait till he finds out that Canada would be the bluest state in the country and would help dems win," one wrote.
"this is crazy person sh*t and yall let him into office," another commented.
"bold of him to assume any of us want to be anywhere near the states," a Candian remarked.

Others explained his actions were very imperialistic.

"He’s so humiliating to me as an American, I have to die to escape the connection to him," an exasperated user noted.
"isn’t this basically just what it would have been like it h*tler had social media…like he’s deada** just letting you all know he wants to take control of a whole a** country," another added.
"this is literally imperialism and idk why people aren’t taking this seriously," one wrote.

"Maybe Canada should become the 51st state"- Donald Trump about Canada

In recent days, Donald Trump has been making remarks about merging the United States and Canada. According to a (December 2024) report by Newsweek, it all began when he reportedly threatened to impose a blanket 25% tariff on all goods coming from Mexico and Canada if the two countries didn't stop illegal migration and the flow of drugs across the border.

Notably, the tariff reportedly directly violated the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that came into effect in July 2020.

During a November 29 dinner with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago, the latter explained the tariffs would harm the Canadian economy, which directly relies on its trade with the U.S. In response, Trump jokingly suggested:

"Maybe Canada should become the 51st state."

Since then, the president-elect has frequently brought up annexing the country. In a press conference on Tuesday, Trump reportedly threatened to use "economic force" on its northern neighbor.

"Because Canada and the United States, that would really be something. You get rid of that artificially drawn line, and you take a look at what that looks like, and it would also be much better for national security," he stated.

He reasoned that the U.S. spent "hundreds of billions" yet ran a trade deficit.

In response, Trudeau, who announced stepping down from his position as the Prime Mnister on Monday, stated that there is a "snowball’s chance in hell" that Canada would become a part of the United States.

On Tuesday, Trump again took to Truth Social to claim many people in the country want to become "the 51st state." Last month, he even addressed Trudeau as "Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada."

Trump is set to take office on January 20.
