Sweden’s Armand Duplantis broke the world record for the ninth time after clearing 6.25 meters at the men’s pole vault at the Paris Olympics. As he celebrated his Olympic gold medal win, followers could not help but compare him to Timothée Chalamet’s Dune character. This is not the first time netizens have recognized the striking resemblance between the two men.
Reddit user u/qooooob was one of the many who took to the r/olympics subreddit to share an image of Armand Duplantis at the Paris Olympics. The platform user also captioned the post, “Lisan al-Gaib.”
For those uninitiated, Lisan al Gaib is a messianic figure who appears in the Dune series. Lisan al Gaib is an outsider in the Fremen culture who is chosen to become the savior of the Arrakis. The name originally meant “prophet or messiah” in the series. However, the Arabic meaning is “tongue of the unseen or missing.”
Several internet users gave Armand Duplantis the moniker of Lisan al Gaib, as others simply compared him to Timothée Chalamet. One netizen tweeted:
Meanwhile, other netizens took to the internet to comment:
“Kept wondering if I was crazy for seeing the Timothee Chalamet resemblance, lol. Glad it’s not just me,” a Reddit suser said.
“Pole Aterides,” another platform user commented.
“Hahaha earlier I had remarked to my wife that this Paul Atreides looking mfer just broke his own WR on pole vault,” an internet user said.
Apart from the duo’s facial features looking similar, the pair are also almost similar in height, with Chalamet being 5 feet 10 inches and Duplantis standing at 5 feet 11 inches. Meanwhile, other online reactions read:
“The Kangaroo Mouse himself,” one internet user said.
“The world record that was prophesized. As written,” another platform user said.
“If Timothee Chalamet and Cillian Murphy had a child,” a Reddit user commented.
For those uninitiated, Timothée Chalamet is half-Austrian Jewish and half Russian-Jewish, while Armand Duplantis is partly American and partly Swedish. Reacting to their resemblance, other netizens said:
“His pole is hiding exactly one letter so his shirt spells WEDEN. When you rearrange the letters, you get DEWEN. Dewen sounds like Dune. Coincidence? I think not,” an internet user said.
“He is too humble to say he is the Mahdi—even more reason to know he is. As written,” another netizen said.
More about Timothée Chalamet’s character in Dune and Armand Duplantis as both hold the same moniker
For those uninitiated with Frank Herbert’s Dune science-fiction epic, Timothée Chalamet plays Paul Atreides, who takes on numerous other names, including Muad’Dib, Usul, Kwisatz Haderach, and Fedaykin.
Lisan al-Gaib is one of the many names Chalamet takes on, which refers to his clairvoyant abilities. Paul’s mother, Jessica, also explains in the series that the name means “voice of the outer world. It’s their name from messiah. It means the Bene Gesserit have been at work here.”
Timothée Chalamet himself has not publicly addressed the resemblance he bears to the Olympic athlete.
