Mark McCrindle defined 'Generation Beta' in his blog

According to People magazine, the upcoming generation has received its name from Mark McCrindle - a social researcher, analyst, and demographer who is also the founder of McCrindle, an Australia-based agency that offers a full range of research services.

As per the company's bio mentioned on their website, McCrindle is also an established author with five published non-fiction books and a keynote speaker who has also spoken on TEDx. He is also well-known around the world for coining the term "Generation Alpha" to address people born between 2010-2024.

In the blog titled, Welcome Gen Beta, McCrindle wrote that the beginning of Generation Beta will mark the end of Gen Alpha births. Per his estimation, in a decade - 2035 - Generation Beta will make up 16% of the global population, with many of them also expected to live to enter the 22nd century.

Being the children of the older Gen Y (millennials) and the younger Gen Z (zoomers), they follow Gen Alpha and will be "raised in a new world of technological integration."

They will live in an era where AI and automation have been fully embedded in everyday life, thus seeing the physical and digital world as seamless. AI algorithms are highly likely to tailor their learning and shopping experiences, as well as their social interactions.

Beyond the technological advancements, Generation Beta will also inherit a world "grappling with societal challenges." Growing up witnessing climate change, rapid urbanization, and global population shifts, they're likely to see sustainability as an expectation and not merely a preference.

Since this generation will be raised by parents who are more eco-minded than the older generations, McCrindle also expects them to be "more globally-minded, community-focused, and collaborative than ever before."

McCrindle wrote of Generation Beta in his blog:

"Generation Beta represents the dawn of a new era. They will grow up in a world shaped by breakthroughs in technology, evolving social norms, and an increasing focus on sustainability and global citizenship."

McCrindle also predicted that the upbringing of Gen Beta will be focused on the importance of innovation, not merely for the sake of their convenience but for solving the real-time challenges that they'll face in their time.

Per McCrindle, the first generation to be labeled were the Builders (born between 1925-1945), followed by the Boomers (born between 1946-64), the Generation X (born between 1965-1979), the Generation Y (born between 1980-1994), and the Generation Z (born between 1995-2009).
