Walmart unveiled their new logo on January 14 that included a new color palette including True Blue and Spark Yellow. The retail outlet shared that they will begin the rollout of their new logo to its 10,500 stores this month and over time. Netizens have since taken to X to troll the brand as they have not made a drastic change to the original brand.

In the latest rendition, the company showcased their redesigned logo, which is reportedly inspired by the founder Sam Walton’s old trucker hat. The new logo now includes a chunkier font, compared to its original rendition alongside a new font. The outlet retained their yellow tone; however, a darker blue is not being used to “keep the brand fresh.”

Speaking about the change, William White, the senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Walmart U.S., said in a press statement:

“This update, rooted in the legacy of our founder, Sam Walton, demonstrates our evolving capabilities and longstanding commitment to serve our customers of today and tomorrow.”

Netizens have since taken to X to react with hilarious comments, some reading:

“How much do you think they paid for this? $1M? $10M? $100M,” an X user said.
“Some consulting firm fleeced them for $500M for this,” another netizen commented.
“Breaking: Walmart spends millions to shift their logo’s shade by one hex code. Innovation at its finest,” a platform user said.

Walmart last tweaked its logo in 2008 when they dropped the star that used to be between Wal and Mart. They went on to combine the words to make it one. Meanwhile, other reactions read:

“Walmart is trying to be thi** inclusive. It went from an 8pt to a 20pt,” an X user said.
“What a significant difference, this will help their brand exponentially,” another internet user sarcastically said.
“But how will people recognize them now,” another netizen hilariously said.

White also said in his press statement that the new logo gives a “bit more life and energy to the spark.” Meanwhile other reactions read:

“I’d pay a lot of money to resurrect Sam and have him look at the consulting invoice for this bold change,” an X user said.
“That is a lot to take in,” another platform user said.

“I wouldn’t call this a rebrand”: Walmart’s Chief Marketing Officer comments on logo change after unveiling new creation

While speaking to Fortune, William White said on January 13 that the organization is keeping up with the times and going “digital.” He said:

“I wouldn’t call this a rebrand, but really a refresh to reflect who we are today. The Walmart of today is very different than the Walmart of 2008, the last time we made a change in the brand identity. We are more modern, we are more digital.”

Business for the company was also booming recently, with online sales growing 22% in the last quarter despite having huge competitors like Amazon.
