On Saturday, December 7, Dave East responded to the unfounded allegations of him resembling an alleged sketch of the suspect in the Brian Thompson murder case made on social media.
The Rich Problems rapper's response comes after an X user named @Bsinatra145Bird commented on a post sharing the alleged sketch:
"Dave East ain't do that s**t"
Attaching a screenshot of both the tweet and the user's comment on it, the Percocet rapper shared it on his Instagram handle, with the caption:
"Damn sure wasn't me. They playing games FR. RIP to homie tho."
While the allegedly-released sketch hasn't been traced back to an official NYPD authority yet, the FBI did share pictures taken of the suspect in CCTV cameras on Saturday.
The FBI has offered $50K to anyone who shares information about Brian Thompson's killer
On December 7, the New York branch of the FBI announced on X that it was assisting the NYPD in helping identify the suspect responsible for the shooting of Brian Thompson - the CEO of the UnitedHealth Group.
On the very same day, the NYPD also recovered a backpack from Central Park that is believed to be the possession of the suspect, per the New York Daily News. Although the weapon used in Brian Thompson's shooting wasn't found in the bag, it contained a few articles of clothing which have now been sent to be tested for DNA. The bag also contained some Monopoly game money.
The news outlet reported on December 7 that Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, addressed the incident at a Christmas event sponsored by the Police Athletic League over the weekend. He stated:
"The net is tightening, and we are going to bring this person to justice. This is a horrific incident in our city and we want to make sure this person is removed from the streets of America, not only on the streets of New York."
When asked if the police officers had identified the suspect or knew his name yet, the Mayor replied:
"We don’t want to release that now. If you do you’re basically giving a tip to the person we are seeking and don’t want to give him an upper hand at all... Let him continue to believe he can hide behind a mask."
He also reassured the people that they were going to reveal Brian Thompson's killer's identity and bring him to justice soon.
Another crucial piece of information about the ongoing investigation is the police officer's prevailing theory about the weapon used in the shooting. The news outlet reports that the weapon is believed to be a B&T Station 6 bolt action pistol, which is commonly used by veterinarians.
Joseph Kenny, the NYPD Chief of Detectives said at a press briefing at NYPD headquarters on Friday, December 6:
“It’s a weapon commonly used on farms and ranches so an animal could be put down without a lot of noise."
The new development comes after police officers found a message scrawled upon the ammunition found at the crime scene on Thursday, December 5. According to AP News, the words written on the ammunition found by police officers were "depose" and "deny" - written on the shell casing and live round respectively.
Per the news outlet, these terms belong to a common phrase - Delay, Depose, Deny - used by the insurance industry critics.
