On August 11, the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris wrapped up with a closing ceremony, which is now earning heat, much like its July 26 opening ceremony. A certain section of social media users is now claiming that the closing ceremony depicted satanic imagery in its portrayal of “The Golden Voyager” and “The Winged Victory of Samothrace.”

For the first sequence, a person dressed in head-to-toe golden attire with horns and a mask was shown flying down from the top of the stadium at Stade de France. Netizens are now comparing it to the Biblical story of Lucifer’s fall from heaven.

Likewise, “The Winged Victory of Samothrace” sequence showed a person dressed in all white portraying a headless and armless one-winged angel ascending to the sky as “The Golden Voyager” looked on.

Some people on the internet are now considering it as occult imagery.

While both art forms are associated with French culture and the Games’ Greek origin and history, the Paris Olympics closing ceremony is now earning criticism online for seemingly using demonic imagery.

For instance, X user @KaraHelenMosher made a post with side-by-side images of the “The Golden Voyager” from the closing ceremony and “The Hanged Man” tarot card with the caption:

“It’s no surprise the 33rd Olympics Games in Paris closed with a ceremony dedicated to the rebirth of Lucifer, the ‘light-bringer’ of enlightenment. The show started with ‘The Golden Voyager,' descending from the sky, like Lucifer’s fall from heaven, leg bent and positioned like the Hanged Mans, who, in the occult, represents the ultimate surrender.”

Several others made similar comparisons on the platform.

“Not even watching it, because you know it's demonic. The globalists control the opening and closing ceremonies. What does that tell you about them?” a person asked.
“The entire Olympics has been a blasphemous ceremony for Satan. Make no mistake about it... this kind of symbolism is well orchestrated and intentional #TheDevilIsReal,” one person wrote.
"I don't know much about satanism but this is pretty dark regardless,” another person wrote.

Others called out the organizers of the Paris Olympics for not taking lessons from the opening ceremony fallout.

“Why did they bother to ‘apologize’ for their opening, if they were going to offend God and Christians again with their closing?” a netizen asked.
“They practiced and prepared for it. They don't want to change even after all the criticism for the opening ceremony,” another netizen wrote.

Meanwhile, some defended the Paris Olympics closing ceremony, insisting that it had nothing to do with the satanic imagery accusations.

“The commentators literally explained every single moment. Y'all are so weird. You grasp at anything so you can fake outrage at being fake persecuted. You're begging for persecution so bad, but nobody cares about you enough to persecute you. Just shut up,” an individual wrote.
“It’s been explained as being ‘inclusive.’ I don’t think Satan needs to be included in anything,” another individual wrote.

Exploring the meaning of “The Golden Voyager” and “The Winged Victory of Samothrace” at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony

At the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony, the character of “The Golden Voyager” was seen taking center stage as a homage to multiple historical heritages of France, including the Spirit of Bastille and Auguste Dumont’s historic bronze-gilded statue cast from 1836 called Genie de la Liberte.

Also called Genie de la Bastille, it is a symbol of liberty and sits on top of the July Column situated at the center of the Place de la Bastille in the French capital.

The artistic director Thomas Jolly also claimed that “The Golden Voyager” was inspired by the golden disc (called the Voyager Golden Record) launched by France into outer space with the help of NASA’s Voyager probes in 1977, meant as a time capsule.

The portrayal seemingly tried to depict the Golden Voyager’s quest into the dystopian future, or as the IOC explained it, landing “in a world that is deserted and mysterious, ready to explore.”

The Golden Voyager then encountered the Sun God Apollo on his way alongside Nike, the Greek Goddess of Victory. The sequence, titled “The Winged Victory of Samothrace,” was inspired by the sculpture of the same name which has been exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris since 1884.

Also called the Nike of Samothrace, it was originally a monument discovered on the island of Samothrace in the north of the Aegean Sea during the Hellenistic Era (2nd century BC) of Greece. It is a headless and armless statue of Nike surmounting a marbled ship’s bow.

The two portrayals at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony thus have no known or direct connection to satanic rituals. For those unaware, during the opening ceremony, the organizers came under fire for seemingly mocking Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper.
