Days after New York Mayor Eric Adams was indicted, an old tweet featuring a screenshot from Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 hit, Juicy, began recirculating online. Adams, who was arraigned on charges related to corruption on Friday, September 27, 2024, reportedly had a minor cameo in the aforementioned music video, as a poster of him was seen in the same.

The resurfaced post in question was shared by New York Times journalist Jesse Drucker in October 2021. He explained that his son spotted a poster of Adams in the song's video, writing:

"Has anyone noticed that and Eric Adams poster makes a cameo in the video for Biggie Smalls' "Juicy"? (h/t: my son.)"

As the post went viral, internet users were quick to react.

"That is just an incredible pull. Nice work by your son!", one remarked.

Adams himself retweeted Drucker's post, writing:

"Forget the suites: I’ve been spreadin’ love in these streets since ‘94."

Eric Adams is the first sitting mayor of NYC to face criminal charges

About a minute and thirty-eight seconds into the Notorious B.I.G. song, Eric Adams' campaign poster from the time he was just beginning his political career appears. The poster is stuck on a traffic light pole on which a man is seen doing pull-ups.

Per an October 2021 profile on the NYC Mayor by New York Magazine, back then the politician was an officer with the New York Police Department (NYPD) and was attempting to run for Congress. However, due to a lack of signatures, he didn't make the ballot. At the time, he claimed that his signatures had been stolen by opponent Major Owens, but it was never proven.

Following his 57-page federal criminal indictment, the 64-year-old mayor is facing charges of one count each of bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and two counts of soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals.

Per CNN, citing the unsealed document, Adams' illegal activities date back to 2014. It states:

"For nearly a decade, Adams sought and accepted improper valuable benefits, such as luxury international travel, including from wealthy foreign businesspeople and at least one Turkish government official seeking to gain influence over him."

It also details Eric Adams receiving luxury travel and other benefits from a Turkish official, and in exchange, pressured the fire department to allow construction of the Turkish consular building without a fire inspection.

Per a September 30 report by Hot New Hip Hop, FBI Assistant Director, James E. Dennehy, in a statement remarked:

"Today’s indictment serves as a sobering moment but also sends a powerful message to every elected official in this country: public service is a profound responsibility, and it should be a noble calling. When that’s perverted by greed and dishonesty, it robs us of our trust. This is a reminder that no one is above the law or beyond reproach."

Eric Adams, in a press conference on Thursday, denied all allegations. Additionally, despite calls for his resignation by Democrats and Republicans, he refused to resign from his position as mayor, stating,

"My day to day will not change. I will continue to do the job for 8.3 million New Yorkers that I was elected to do."

His lawyer, Alex Spiro, has filed to have the case dismissed, citing lack of credible evidence.
