Rapper Gunna's (real name is Sergio Giavanni Kitchens) attorney, Steve Sadow, defends his former client against claims that he snitched during the YSL RICO trial. On Friday, January 3, 2025, Sadow took to his X to call out the naysayers, writing:

"Gunna did NOT cooperate, and did NOTHING and said NOTHING to cause harm to Thug's case. He spent 8 months in jail and was released in Dec. 2022 after entering an Alford plea. Gunna's plea could not and was not used at Thug's trial and he was never even named as a witness."

For the unversed, in May 2022, cops arrested Young Thug and several others associated (including Sergio) with the label YSL (Young Stoner Life) for violating Georgia's RICO Act. Per the indictment, the label was allegedly a front for the street gang Young Slime Life.

In December 2022, the Drip Too Hard hitmaker entered the Alford plea (the defendant can plead guilty while still maintaining their innocence) and was released. Since then, the rapper has battled rumors of snitching during the trial.

Defending his former client, Sadow asserted:

"THOSE THAT HAVE AND CONTINUE TO BAD MOUTH GUNNA, GET OVER IT. NUFF' SAID."

"Oh the fake outrage, same old s**t"-Steve Sadow about claims of former client Gunna being a snitch

Referencing his Gunna's release, Steve Sadow continued:

"He received a 5-yr suspended sentence, with no reporting, no travel restrictions, no living restrictions, AND NO PROBATION."

The attorney continued to explain that in October 2024, Young Thug himself entered a non-negotiated plea deal (pleaded guilty to six counts and no contest to the remaining two) and was subsequently released with 15 years of probation. The terms forbade Thug from entering Atlanta.

Sadow concluded:

"Love the street rules and the dry-snitched comments. Oh the fake outrage, same old s**t. Both were charged with RICO. Both faced 20 yrs in prison. Both pled to RICO. Regardless, I'm more than willing to accept the blame for the great deal."

Sadow's comments came after Young Thug seemingly dissed Sergio in a snippet of a new song (shared on his Instagram stories on January 2), where he can be heard rapping:

"Never associate with a rat/ Go and get some money, get a pack."

As the clip went viral, netizens speculated that this was a reference to the latter rapper. Gunna has been battling claims of snitching on Thug since his release. These rumors gained traction after fellow rapper Lil Baby unfollowed him on Instagram (January 2023), and Lil Durk called him a "rat" during his interview on DJ Akademik's Off The Record podcast (May 2023).

This is not the first time Sadow has come to the defense of his former client. Immediately after Gunna's release, he shared a statement with XXL on behalf of his client, asserting:

"I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way."

He also shared a post on his Instagram (December 14, 2022) that his client "did not snitch." He explained that the rapper said "nothing" and was "not cooperating." Further, Sadow added that his statement couldn't be used in court against any defendant, asking everyone to "stop spreading lies."

Thug's father, Jeffery Williams, Sr., too, came to Sergio's defense. During a September 2023 interview with Infamous Sylvia (the legal affairs journalist's YouTube channel), he noted that the rapper hadn't done "anything whatsoever that (could) hurt" Thug's case.

In a separate interview with Infamous Sylvia (December 2023), Jeffery Williams, Sr. criticized Lil Baby for his comments about Gunna. According to a December 2023 article by Complex, at the time, a video of Baby demanding the DJ to stop playing the latter's song Drip Too Hard and adding "f*ck the rats" during a concert was circulating online. Referring to the clip, Williams, Sr. remarked:

"He need to shut the f*ck up, ’cause he don't know what's going on," before adding, "He going off a what he heard. Ask Lil Baby has he ever come to a court date."

It is to be noted that Young Thug never mentioned Sergio's name during his trial. Further, the terms barred him from associating with suspected gang members and fellow defendants. However, an exception was made for his brother, Quantavious Grier and Gunna.

Despite this, last month, Thug took to his X to share a post (since deleted) that read:

"Gunna stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don't know u my guy."

The Drip Too Hard rapper addressed the claims in an April 2024 interview with XXL. He explained that he felt "everybody’s been misled," adding that everyone should make their own decisions instead of being a "follower.".

Gunna has not publicly reacted to the development.
