Did Terry Crews pass away? Viral death hoax surrounding AGT host debunked

Online rumors recently stated that actor and comedian Terry Crews had passed away. Fans were astonished and alarmed as these rumors went viral on social media.

Fortunately, there is no proof that Terry Crews passed away. It seems to be the most recent instance of a celebrity death hoax, despite the fact that some individuals are posting about it as though it were real. Due to social media messages and rumors claiming that Crews had died, the fake news gained popularity.

However, Terry Crews is still alive, as no official sources have confirmed his passing. Moreover, on January 2, 2025, Crews wrote on Instagram that he was excited for 2025 and thankful for the past year. Stating the same, he wrote:

“So many blessings in 2024!!! Feeling thankful, grateful, and energized for an amazing 2025. Love y’all!!!!!”

Celebrities like Terry Crews have faced hoax death rumors before

For many years, comedian Terry Crews has been a well-liked figure in popular culture. However, internet reports that Terry had died started to surface in early 2025. Many people were curious to find out if the rumors were accurate, however, they are not.

As per Monsters and Critics' January 4 report, although they haven't independently confirmed where the hoax started, several sources claim it started on Facebook via a now-deleted post. Nevertheless, his social media updates show Terry Crews is alive and well. Since then, the America's Got Talent host has seemingly responded to the claims by maintaining a public presence and interacting with supporters.

The post was uploaded on Crews' Instagram Story as well. Furthermore, in a public appearance on New Year's Day, Crews joined Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo in a car for the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, further debunking the allegations.

Additionally, this isn’t the only time celebrity death hoax started circulating the internet. A December 24 Facebook post stated that Tia Mowry, Tamera Mowry's twin sister and Twitches actor, had died. The post further stated:

“02:04:04 (R.I.P.) With deep sorrow, We report the sad news of 'Sister, Sister' star Tia Mowry, goodbye Tia Mowry….”

A blurry photo of an alleged car accident and a seemingly photoshopped image of Tia Mowry in a frame with the words "RIP" was also included in the post. It also had another framed photo of Tia and featured a photograph of some black-clad individuals sobbing while carrying a white coffin.

However, since there had been several such hoax posts about Tia in the past, the post was ultimately disproved as fake. Moreover, no other news outlet covered the same story.

On the other hand, in a number of social media posts and YouTube videos since early 2024, there has been a false rumor that comedian and Family Feud game show presenter Steve Harvey allegedly had died in a "tragic accident."

Additionally, as per Snopes' October 18 post, on October 17, a Facebook user shared a now-deleted post about Harvey that read:

"Breaking news Steve passed on in a car accident yesterday R.I.P."

However, Harvey's live weekday radio program and podcast, The Steve Harvey Morning Show, and his social media posts have verified that he was still alive. Additionally, Harvey has already been the victim of the hoax death news on multiple occasions. In response to one of the hoaxes in July 2023, he shared a picture of himself on X on July 19, staring at his phone with the comment:

"Me seeing that Rip Harvey is trending."

Additionally, a YouTube video titled Devastating News... In a Tragic Accident Yesterday Night Steve Harvey Passed Away was posted on October 6, claiming the same. A photograph of Harvey was placed on a picture denoting a car accident in the thumbnail image.
