During the 2024 Presidential debate on Tuesday, September 10, Kamala Harris slammed Donald Trump for negotiating directly with the Taliban. The current Vice President accused Trump of inviting the Taliban to Camp David, a place of great significance for the Americans.

“He (Trump) bypassed the Afghan government. He negotiated directly with a terrorist organization called the Taliban. The negotiation involved the Taliban getting 5,000 terrorists released. And get this, and the President at the time, invited the Taliban to Camp David, a place that has storied significance for us as Americans,” accused Kamala Harris during the Presidential debate on Tuesday.

Kamala Harris' statements against the former President are true, as he called for peace talks with the Taliban at Camp David in September 2019. However, he abruptly called them off shortly after the Taliban took credit for the catastrophic strike in Afghanistan that killed 12, including a US military personnel.

"They're dead, they're dead. As far as I'm concerned, they are dead," Trump told reporters at the White House after canceling the meeting in September 2019. (via CBS News)

Camp David has been a historically significant location in the political landscape of the United States. The most notable diplomatic event at Camp David was the 1978 Camp David Accords, in which President Jimmy Carter held negotiations with the Presidents of Egypt and Israel, ending in a peace treaty between the countries.

Critics of the former President slammed him for scheduling a meeting with the Taliban at Camp David days before the anniversary of the infamous 9/11 strikes.

Notably, the Trump administration signed an agreement with the Taliban in February 2020, calling for the release of 5000 Taliban soldiers from Afghan prisons. As per a report by PolitiFact, all the prisoners were released by September 2020.

Donald Trump recently reacted to Taylor Swift's Instagram post endorsing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 US Presidential Election. On September 11, Taylor Swift published a long post on her Instagram supporting Kamala Harris' candidature.

When asked about Taylor Swift's comments in the spin room after Tuesday's Presidential debate, the former President responded:

"I have no idea."

In her Instagram post, Taylor Swift talked about AI being used to advance Trump's cause and slammed the people spreading misinformation by using her AI model. Taylor Swift followed it by asserting her support for Kamala Harris' administration.

"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos," she wrote.

The Grammy winner also raved about Tim Walz's selection as the Vice President, lauding his efforts to uplift LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and other women's rights for decades.

With under two months to go for November 5, the Presidential election race is at its final stages now. Therefore, Taylor Swift implored all the voters - especially the first-timers - to register and make informed decisions after knowing all the facts about the candidates.
