On January 2, a Facebook page claimed that a woman was suing the chips company Pringles for their chips cans not being accommodative of large people. This comes after the organization released their Mingles line, where the snacks came in packets instead of the quintessential cans. Despite the page’s claims gaining immense traction online, it is worth noting that it is not true.
Wakefield News shared an image of a woman with large arms and wrote in their caption:
“Woman from York says she is SUING Pringles after claiming the packaging discriminates against those with ‘fuller arms’ and those with beautiful arms.”
The social media page also claimed that the woman, whose name is Joy Ryde-Myaz, stated that she bought the chips 56 times in 2024 and:
“Not a single time was I able to get to the crisp at the bottom.”
The 42-year-old woman also reportedly added:
“I’ve never had a problem with other varieties of crisps. Enough is enough.”
The social media post was quick to go viral and amass over 67,000 reactions, 9,000 shares, and 25,000 comments.
Several netizens continued to interact with the post; however, they failed to notice that the statements were not real. The news originated from a satirical social media account in reality.
A woman is not suing Pringles for the size of their chip cans
If one observes the origin of the story, Wakefield News, one can notice that the page, which boasts nearly 60,000 followers, is a satirical page as mentioned above. The Page has flagged itself as a “satire/parody” account. Furthermore, if one reads the Intro section of the Facebook page, it states:
“A news page for people who like a laugh. Nothing on this page is serious. Parody account.”
The page has shared multiple fake news stories in recent days. Some with headlines that read:
“Rosie Jones says: ‘I’m gay, disabled, and a really funny comedian- people judge me everyday.’”
“Sam Smith shows a little leg as he STUNS in snowy photo shoot and shares his plans to build a SNOWTHEM.”
Hence, it is safe to say that news of the company being sued is the furthest from the truth. It is important to verify such information through credible news outlets.
Pringles launched Mingles, their can-free chips line
In May 2024, Pringles released their puffed-chips version, Mingles. The snacks are sold in small packets rather than their iconic cans. The lineup boasts three flavors, including Cheddar & Sour Cream, Sharp White Cheddar & Ranch, BBQ & Pizza, and Dill Pickle & Ranch. Mauricio Jenkins, the U.S.’s marketing lead for the organization, said:
“Our iconic Pringles can is part of our identity- and it’s not going anywhere- but we’re always looking for new ways to innovate and satisfy our fans’ latest cravings. This puffy, airy snack not only gives fans a new way to experience Pringles, but its easy-to-share packaging creates a new way to enjoy their favorite snack with friends and family”
In other news, the chips maker Kellanova was acquired by M&M and Snickers producers Mars back in August.
Fredric Baur, Alexander Liepa, and Gene Wolfe are the people behind the uniquely shaped potato crisps. The company stated on its website that the chips are made mostly from potatoes, starches, flour, salt, and seasonings. The snack is not gluten-free and is fried, not baked.
Some of their new flavors include Enchilada Adobada, Everything Bagel, Philly Cheesesteak, and Honey Mustard among others.
