Actor Tom Holland reportedly asked Zendaya's father for her hand in marriage. Citing "sources close to the couple," TMZ on Monday, January 6, 2024, reported that Holland took his girlfriend's dad Kazembe Ajamu Coleman's blessing "months" before the alleged proposal.
On Sunday, Zendaya sparked engagement rumors during her appearance at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles. The Euphoria star's ensemble featured a ring on her engagement finger not part of her Bulgari accessories.
As reports of Tom Holland asking for Zendaya's hand spread, internet users were quick to react. One referencing fellow Spider-Man actor Shameik Moore (who voiced Miles Morales in Spider-Verse animated movies), known for sharing cryptic posts after actresses announce their engagements (Hailee Steinfeld and Laura Harrier), wrote:
"DON’T let shameik moore find out about this."
Many gushed about the couple, one even calling it more important than a British royal wedding. Some comments seen under @PopCrave's post on Instagram read:
"this is more important than a british royal family wedding," one wrote.
"God i need this marriage to work more than my own sef," another added.
"romance is not dead people omfg" a fan reacted.
Others praised Tom Holland, calling him a gentleman.
"i’ll never understand how tom has ever had haters he’s such a gentleman in every sense of the word," one commented.
"The way her dad kept this secret for months while probably bursting with joy shows exactly where Zendaya got her ability to keep things private," another commented.
"He is literally the real life Romeo of our time," a person stated.
Tom Holland also allegedly asked Zendaya's mother for her hand in marriage
According to TMZ, Tom Holland felt it was an important step, and being very traditional, he felt it was important to secure Kazembe's blessing. Per the publication, Zendaya's father accepted it, adding that her family was very excited for the next chapter in her life.
Further, TMZ reported that the actress' family loved Holland and thought he was "a class act." Tom reportedly waited months to propose because he was allegedly waiting for the right moment.
The publication previously reported that Tom Holland proposed to Zendaya in one of her family homes in the United States in a very private ceremony. It happened over the holiday season sometime between Christmas and New Year's.
According to an article by Page Six, citing an insider, the Challengers actress had no idea Tom Holland was planning to propose. Additionally, the Spider-Man star also asked Zendaya's mother, Claire Stoermer, for permission as well.
While the couple, known to keep their personal lives private, didn't reveal the development, the actress' Golden Globe red carpet look seemingly confirmed the engagement rumors. Netizens were quick to figure out similarities between Zendaya's ring and the one from Jessica McCormack, a London-based jeweler.
Tom Holland met Zendaya on the sets of the MCU's Spider-Man: Homecoming. They began dating soon after the release of the film in 2017 but didn't go public with their relationship until July 2021, when paparazzi spotted them kissing in Los Angeles.
Neither Tom nor Zendaya has publicly commented on the alleged development.
