An X user @Captainhorizon7 took to the social networking site to respond to a tweet that announced that Barrera had been dropped from the iconic movie franchise. The netizen said:

“Wait till they find out Jenna Ortega also supported Palestine and is practically their money maker right now.”

The tweet had amassed over one million views at the time of writing this article.

The netizen was referring to Jenna Ortega’s 2022 tweet where she said:

"We must never give up on the people of Ukraine, Yemen, Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq, Syria… the list goes on unfortunately. For anyone who is willing & wanting to contribute any way they can, I want to form a thread with information. Does anyone have resources/ linked they could add?"

In another tweet, the Wednesday actress said- “Decolonize Palestine.”

She went on to share website links to different fundraisers for countries including Syria, Iraq, and Palestine.

“I hope Jenna Ortega leaves to show solidarity to Melissa”: Discussion sparks online in wake of Melissa Barrera being dropped from Scream 7

As news of Barrera not being part of the upcoming Scream movie made headlines, many were quick to speak about Jenna Ortega’s online activity. Several netizens speculated that the latter was not being fired from the movie due to her cult following and popularity. Others also hoped that Ortega would follow suit by disassociating herself from the franchise.

A few tweets online read:

It is worth noting that Ortega’s tweets are now unavailable on the social networking site. This is due to her account being deleted. The actress had not publicly spoken about the current Middle East conflict at the time of writing this article.

Jenna Ortega was branded as an antisemite earlier this year

This is not the first time Ortega’s aforementioned tweet in support of Palestine gained traction online. On January 7, an article titled- “Jenna Ortega vs. Kanye: Whose antisemitic hate is worse?” that was published by The Times of Israel, circulated online.

The author of the article, Dan Margolis, was referring to Ortega’s tweet that showed support for Palestine. The article also pointed to Kanye West’s anti-Jewish comments he made last year, one of which included saying that he likes Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. The singer also said in the past that it was the fault of the Jewish press for keeping Nazi values away from the world.

The Times of Israel opined that Ortega’s tweet was “well- intentioned but uninformed.” They also stated that the star did not have a “real understanding of antisemitism” and its “forms.”

The Scream 7 director, Christopher Landon, had not responded to Ortega’s tweets resurfacing online. However, he addressed the removal of Barrera from the franchise. He said in a now-deleted tweet- “This is my statement: Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.”

The movie’s production house Spyglass Media had not released a public statement that addressed Barrera’s termination from the Scream 7 project.
