Luigi Mangione, the person accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is currently in a Pennsylvanian prison. However, in a new interview with NewsNation’s Alex Caprariello on December 12, his fellow prison mates were heard yelling, “Luigi’s conditions suck” & “Free Luigi.”
The interview came after Mangione was arrested for the murder on December 10. Luigi Mangione was then locally accused of possessing prohibited firearms and using fraudulent identification. Additionally, authorities in New York further charged him with second-degree murder and other offenses.
Luigi Mangione showed up in court that same day with an attorney who declared that he would oppose the attempt to relocate him back to New York. The arrest was conducted after an Altoona, Pennsylvania, McDonald's employee allegedly recognized his face and informed the police.
Now, once the video of the interview went viral, netizens took to the comment section of the X clip to express their opinion. One even pointed out that everyone’s revolting for him now.
“Everyone revolting for him now,” one X user pointed out.
One user urged the authorities to free him, while another one pointed out that even the inmates behind bars know the truth that he didn’t do it.
“As they should because he didn’t do it,” wrote another one.
“Oh they spilled! They know what’s up even from behind the bars!” commented one netizen.
“Even his own inmates are saying free him. FREE HIM!” another one urged.
One user commented that the media was wrong about how the prison inmates wouldn't "tolerate" a "CEO Killer," while another remarked that he's liked by the inmates.
“Yet the media talking heads were just saying that Luigi would have a hard time in jail because the inmates wouldn’t tolerate a “CEO Killer,” one wrote sarcastically.
"omg he is liked by even the inmates in the prison," demanded a fellow X user.
Luigi Mangione is now in a prison where the recent interview was conducted
In the NewsNation's video, uploaded on X the same day, Caprariello could be heard saying:
“This is just from a few hours ago and here they are at 10 o'clock, as promised. They said earlier today, tell Ashley Banfield that Luigi is watching at 10 o'clock. I mean, obviously, you know, that's just a hard roast at this point because they're not near Luigi in any way…”
He further said this, reading from what seemed like a note. He referred to the fact that the inmates wanted Banfield, who is NewsNation’s on-screen reporter, to know that Luigi Mangion was watching the news.
This seemingly confused Banfield as she then asked:
“And I just ask the guys if they can hear me right now to answer yes or no, very loud. Does Luigi have television in his single cell? No. They said no, right? Obviously we have a little bit of a delay, but they're getting the questions and they're giving us the answers.”
She then continued:
“They're getting it. So Luigi does not have, wow, this is quite something. This is the strangest interview I've ever conducted.”
Then, the on-field reporter replied:
“Me too, Ashley. You know, according to the Department of Corrections, he's got his own solitary cell. It's not solitary confinement, but he's by himself. It's not dorm-style. I'm not sure exactly what those guys got going on in terms of a living situation, it sounds like they're all clustered together. It isn't interesting to see what accommodations they have.”
On the other hand, after he was arrested, authorities discovered that Mangione reportedly had four forged identification documents, a U.S. passport, a ghost gun with a silencer, and a handwritten manifesto that contained words from Ted Kaczynski, the infamous Unabomber.
Meanwhile, as per Reuters’ December 12 report, following Luigi Mangion's arrest, an online fundraiser received over a thousand donations for his legal defense, along with supportive remarks.
