A video of Jollibee staffers serving food to people affected by the LA fires was uploaded to X on Monday, January 13, and has since gone viral. For the unversed, Jollibee is a Filipino fast-food restaurant with nearly 78 outlets across 14 states within the US.
The video has since attracted a lot of attention online, receiving over 6.8 million views, 223K likes, and 23K retweets. Netizens have praised the Filipino outlet generously in the comments section, with one of them writing:
"filipinos never beating the amazing ppl allegations"
Some netizens have complimented Jollibee for stepping up and giving back to the community in the trying times caused by the LA fires.
"Big respect to Jollibee for showing that food can nourish more than the body, it can heal hearts and unite people. Thank you for reminding us what true leadership looks like in times of need." - commented an X user.
"Jollibee really knows how to step up! Love seeing them give back to the community." - replied another.
"This is indeed a humanity. People coming forward for residents affected by fires in LA. This act of kindness is appreciative." - wrote a third one.
Meanwhile, others pointed out that small businesses were often found to be more eager to help out in a crisis like the LA fires rather than the bigger corporations.
"Not only is this incredibly generous, but it's also a small price to pay to earn customers for GENERATIONS. These people's children's children will eat at Jollibee." - posted a fourth user.
"notice how americans aren’t doing anything ? it’s always Filipinos or Mexicans helping that f**k a** country" - wrote a fifth one.
"It's the little businesses popping up to help. The big corps are too busy figuring what they can do to f**k us over this spring." - commented a sixth user.
Despite the social media attention Jollibee is getting after having gone viral, there's official confirmation linking the video to the ongoing crisis, the Times Now News reported on Monday.
The LA fires have destroyed over 10,000 structures so far
While the thoughtful gesture allegedly made by Jollibee might offer temporary relief to those displaced due to the ongoing LA fires, the wildfire crisis has caused permanent damage in many parts of California. According to Times Now News, the LA fires have already burned more than 10,000 structures to the ground, spreading over 36,000 acres of area.
The economic losses incurred due to the LA fires are also surmounting, with JP Morgan reporting overall economic loss surpassing $50 billion and insured loss over $20 billion.
Human loss is another cause of concern amidst the LA fires. Per a USA Today article published on January 12, 24 people have died as victims of the wildfire so far - from the Palisades as well as the Eaton fires. Investigation into the identities of the victims is still underway, per the media outlet.
While the wildfires remain largely out of the control at the moment, the North-Northeast wind gusts pose a bigger problem, which has led to a red flag warning declared in the state until Wednesday. The strong winds, combined with low humidity and dry vegetation, could contribute to serious fire conditions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist, Rich Thompson.
Among the large number of LA residents who had to evacuate their homes as a consequence of the LA fires are many famous celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Jeff Bridges, Anthony Hopkins, Mandy Moore, Cary Elwes, Eugene Levy, Adam Sandler, Tom Hanks, Ben Affleck, Diane Keaton, Mel Gibson, John Woods, and Steven Spielberg.
