On January 7, 2025, the Palisades fire broke out in Los Angeles, causing several juggernauts of Hollywood to evacuate their homes. As per BBC, the fire started in an area of only 20 acres but spread to over ten times the area in just 20 minutes. As of writing, the Palisades fire has already spread to over 3000 acres.
The affluent neighborhood of Palisades in Los Angeles is known for housing an assortment of celebrities from Hollywood. Among the A-listers in the neighborhood are Jennifer Aniston, Eugene Levy, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Adam Sandler, Michael Mann, Carol, Lombardini, Kathleen Kennedy, James Woods, Steve Guttenberg, Rita Wilson, Bradley Cooper, Michael Keaton, and others.
However, the idyllic streets are currently filled with firefighters relentlessly trying to get a grip on the expanding fire. Across the city, over 30,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes, and a state of emergency has been declared. The list also includes celebrities like Mark Hamill, James Wood, and many others.
Star Wars star Mark Hamil posted an update on Instagram on Tuesday night. He claimed he could see fires on either side of the road when he left his Malibu home with his wife Marilou and dog Trixie. At present, the Star Wars veteran is at his daughter Chelsea's home in Hollywood.
Actor James Woods posted a video of the flames engulfing the area on X and confirmed that he was able to evacuate along with his family.
"To all the wonderful people who’ve reached out to us, thank you for being so concerned. Just letting you know that we were able to evacuate successfully. I do not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly houses on our little street are not," he wrote on X.
Many other celebrities shared their experience evacuating during the Palisades fire
The Palisades fire claimed the houses of several A-listers in the industry. Among them, reality TV stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt lost their homes. In a post on TikTok, Pratt showed the Palisades fire approaching his home. As per Tribune, although the two were able to evacuate on time, the fire "burned [their house] to the ground."
According to Deadline, actress Mandy Moore was forced to leave her home along with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, and three children. The This Is Us star mentioned that she had left home after the Palisades fire spread across the area of Los Angeles.
"Evacuated and safe with kids, dog and cats. Praying and grateful for the first responders," she wrote on her Instagram Story.
Eugene Levy, the current Honorary Mayor of the Pacific Palisades and an alumni of creatives like American Pie and Schitt's Creek, told local media that he was forced to evacuate his home.
"The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon. I couldn't see any flames but the smoke was very dark," he recounted to the Los Angeles Times.
Meanwhile, Steve Guttenberg, known for his role in Police Academy, stayed in the Pacific Palisades to help the firefighters move cars and make way for the incoming fire trucks. In an interview with news outlet KTLA, he implored the evacuating residents to leave the keys to their cars behind so that people could move them out of the way of the fire trucks.
"We really need people to move their cars. This is not a parking lot," he said. "It's really important for everybody to band together and don't worry about your personal property - get your loved ones and get out."
In a later interview with CNN, Guttenberg inferred that "this is the most unbelievable fire I've ever seen."
In addition to them, other icons of the industry like Ben Affleck, Jhene Aiko, Miles Teller, Kawhi Leonard, and others own multimillion-dollar properties in the path of the Palisades fire and remain at risk as the fire spreads unchecked.
Many notable public buildings were also affected by the Palisades fire. Among them are the Palisades Charter High School and the Getty Villa. Furthermore, the premieres for Unstoppable, Better Man, and Wolfman and the live nominations event for the Screen Actors Guild Awards have also been canceled.
