A recent Facebook post on the fan page RuPaul’s Drag Race Family listed HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series cast on September 29. The post included a photo of the supposed teaser and it was further claimed that HBO Max released a new franchise logo.
According to the page, the child actors to play Harry, Hermione, and Ron have been reportedly selected — Toby Woolf, Bronte Carmichael, and Joshua Pickering, adding:
"Lesley Manville has already signed on to play Minerva McGonagall alongside Peter Capaldi as Albus Dumbledore, Kristian Nairn as Rubeus Hagrid, Angus Imrie as Professor Quirell, Edward Bluemel as Snape and Lucy David as Aunt Petunia."
The Facebook post claimed Jamie Campbell Bower, who originally played a young Gellert Grindelwald in the film series, and appeared in Deathly Hallows: Part 1, is set to play Lord Voldemort in the upcoming HBO series. It also stated that the show is expected to premiere in the Fall of 2026.
However, according to a Variety report from September 9, the casting call for the Harry Potter series is still in progress, meaning they are yet to select the actors. HBO told the outlet the last date to submit the audition tapes is October 31.
Thus, the rumored cast list named in the viral Facebook post is unconfirmed.
A TikTok user initially shared the rumored Harry Potter series casting
On June 27, Hello Magazine published an article reporting a TikTok user's post where they supposedly acquired some "exclusive information" on the upcoming Harry Potter series.
According to the article, Toby Woolf was rumored to play a young Harry in the show. The London-based child actor previously played Billie Piper's son Larch in the 2019 rom-com Rare Beasts. Toby also appeared as a young Steve Jones on 4 episodes of the 2022 miniseries Pistol.
Joshua Pickering, the child actor rumored to appear as young Ron Weasley in the HBO Max's reboot series, previously played John Darling in the 2023 adventure film Peter Pan & Wendy.
As per the outlet, the TikTok user allegedly claimed Bronte Carmichael would play Hermione Granger. According to IMDB, her acting credits include the 2022 series Andor and the 2018 adventure film Christopher Robin among others.
The Hello Magazine article further reported Tom Felton, the famed Draco Malfoy from the OG HP film series will return to the TV show as Draco's dad Lucius. It went on to add a few more actors — Helen Mirren, Blair Underwood, and Adam Driver, who were allegedly rumored to play Professor Minerva McGonagall, Albus Dumbledore, and Severus Snape respectively.
However, it is to be noted that HBO has not yet announced any official casting for the Harry Potter series.
