Elon Musk recently commented on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's firm rejection of Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state. This discussion followed Trudeau's announcement on January 6, 2025, that he plans to step down as leader of the Liberal Party.

Following this, US President-elect Trump expressed his long-running interest in annexing Canada to be a part of the US in a post on Truth Social. However, Trudeau firmly replied that there "isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell" of Canada joining the US, adding in an X post uploaded on January 7:

"Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner."

However, Elon Musk seemingly didn't share Trudeau's sentiment, claiming the Canadian politician no longer held any influence in the country's political decisions following his resignation.

"Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so doesn’t matter what you say," Musk replied.

"2025 is looking good" — Elon Musk's commented following Justin Trudeau's resignation

On January 6, 2025, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, who has been leading the country since 2015, announced his plans to resign as the leader of the Liberal Party ahead of the 2025 elections. Trudeau cited "internal battles" as his reason for resignation, seemingly referring to the pushback he faced from his party in recent times.

"This country deserves a real choice in the next election and it has become clear to me that if I'm having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election. Last night, over dinner, I told my kids about the decision that I'm sharing with you today. I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister, after the party selects its next leader through a robust nationwide competitive process," he stated during a press conference.

Following this, an X account under the handle @thatsKAIZEN posted about how "Great men are ascendant," citing Trump's win and Trudeau's resignation. On January 6, Elon Musk quote tweeted the post, adding:

"2025 is looking good."

Elon Musk previously criticized Trudeau, calling him an "insufferable tool" after the latter dubbed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris' loss a hindrance in women's progress following the 2024 US election.

In 2023, Elon Musk accused Justin Trudeau of attempting to "crush free speech" in Canada amid diplomatic tensions with India. The unrest followed Canada's claims of "credible allegations" linking India to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which India denied.

Elon Musk has taken an interest in politics in recent years, after spending $277 million on Donald Trump's political campaign. Following Trump's win, Musk was elected to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), along with Vivek Ramaswamy, to focus on cost-cutting the government.

The X owner also criticized UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for being "deeply complicit in the mass r*pes in exchange for votes." His posts on X over the past few days claimed that Starmer ignored an alleged grooming gang scandal while heading the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) between 2008 and 2013.

Elon Musk also engaged in a war of words with right-wing supporters in favor of allowing leniency in the H-1B visa process. The debate, which began during Christmas, saw Musk claim that the US needed more skilled foreign labour to boost the economy, adding that American engineers were not as skilled as foreign workers.
