Former Da Band member Chopper claims Sean "Diddy" Combs secretly hated late rapper Tupac Shakur. During his interview with The Art of Dialogue podcast on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Chopper detailed his experience working with Combs.
He recalled an incident when the I'll Be Missing You hitmaker asked him about who influenced his music style growing up. He said,
"He was like, 'Who did you grow up listening to?' I'm like Tupac. I ain'y mention Biggie. That n**ga didn't even talk to me for like four f**king days."
He continued:
"(He) hated everything about Tupac, no matter how that sound. Diddy hated 'Pac... hated his guts."
For the unversed, Louisiana-born rapper, Chopper "Young City" (a.k.a. Keven Barnes) was part of Combs' hip-hop group, Da Band. The Bad Boy Entertainment founder documented the group's foundation for MTV's show Making the Band. When the group disbanded at the end of season three, Diddy's label signed Chopper, but the rapper left soon after.
"It was all about Biggie"- Chopper about Diddy's opinion on Biggie and 2Pac
Chopper told The Art of Dialogue that Diddy forced every member to memorize and recite Biggie's (a.k.a. Notorious B.I.G.) single, Juicy. Biggie was a New York rapper signed to Combs' label. Chopper remarked:
"Everything with 2Pac... Like you couln't say 'Pac was better than Biggie. You (couldn't) put them in the same realm or nothing. It was all about Biggie," adding "And I don't think Biggie would've gave a f**k if a n**ga cared about reciting his whole sh*t."
Chopper continued to explain that he believed feds have kept Combs' locked up as they want to connect him with 2Pac's murder, stating:
"I think the real reason they ain't gon' let Puffy out because they trying to connect that Keefe D situation."
For the unversed, Pac was gunned down while driving in Las Vegas in 1996. The murder remained unsolved until September 2023, when former gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis was arrested and charged with his murder. Davis is facing a count of murder with a deadly weapon.
According to an August 2024 report by Vibe, Davis previously claimed that Combs was involved in planning the murder, offering him $1 million in exchange for the hit. Keffe D's trial is set to begin this March.
Diddy, for his part, has denied any involvement in Tupac's murder. In October 2024, Alex Spiro told Court TV that Shakur's family hired an investigator to find a potential link between Combs and his murder.
"They know if they let him out on house arrest, he 'gon be a good boy," Chopper remarked.
Chopper is referencing Diddy's arrest on charges of s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Per his indictment, Combs ran a "criminal enterprise" that s*xually and physically abused "women and others" for years.
Since then, the rapper has unsuccessfully appealed for bail numerous times, until last month when he voluntarily withdrew his appeal. While appealing for bail, Combs' legal team proposed a bond of $50 million and 24/7 house arrest, among other measures.
Chopper told The Art of Dialogue that he felt the rapper wasn't involved in s*x trafficking, adding that Black people are easily targeted. He also alleged that the rapper was a victim of "the big dog."
Combs has denied all accusations levied against him. His trial is set to begin in May 2025.
