Fans defended TikToker and food critic Keith Lee after he stood up for his wife at the BET Awards. Actress Taraji P. Henson flirted with him by giving him a rose, which his wife didn't seem to appreciate. In a now-deleted TikTok clip, Keith dropped the rose on the ground.
Folowing the incident, Lee also uploaded a photo with his wife on his official Instagram. Now, once the photo went viral, his fans went to the comment section to defend Keith Lee's action and praised him for taking a stand for his wife.
Keith Lee opened up about his and his wife’s reaction to Taraji P. Henson’s action at the BET Awards
TikToker and food critic, Keith Lee, became embroiled in a confusion with Taraji P. Henson during the 2024 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 30. Lee got front-row seats at the event, which he attended with his wife, Ronnie Lee.
Henson, the show's host, however, did a mix up during the event. In the event, Henson's goal was to "give people their flowers." The actress did this by advancing to the front of the audience, where Keith and his wife were seated. The actress then approached TikToker Jordan Howlett, thinking he was Keith, who was seating beside the food critic.
However, Henson was quickly corrected by Howlett, who gestured to Keith Lee, who was sitting beside his wife. Ronnie also gestured at Keith, and they all laughed at the confusion.
The actress then immediately turned back to face Lee, apologizing for the mistake, and then gave him the rose that was intended for him. However, later on, Lee posted a video on TikTok of him placing the rose on the ground.
Moreover, after this, a picture of Ronnie also went viral from the show which seemingly show her being annoyed toward Taraji. However, following the entire event, Lee took to TikTok on July 2 to address his actions and his wife’s reaction to the whole thing.
Referring to his wife, he said-
“A picture of my wife has been going around and it was a small part caught from an entire moment, to make it seem like she had an attitude with Taraji. My wife and myself understand the flirting that Taraji was doing was fully improv and fully joe. It was a hard situation for all of us to be in. We fully understand she made it up on the fly.”
Furthermore, justifying why he put the rose like that, Keith Lee said-
“I made a video last night where I had the rose that was given to me in my hand and I let it fall on the floor. The reason I did this had nothing to do with Taraji Pinson. The reason I dropped it on the floor is that I wholeheartedly believe that wasn't my rose, that wasn't my rose, that wasn't my moment. It was given to me, but it wasn't mine.”
He further added that as he had social anxiety, the situation got even more difficult for him.
Afterwards, Taraji told Howlett and Lee that she was sorry for her error. Nevertheless, Ronni Lee hasn’t said anything regarding the entire incident.
