Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump recently said he would like to work at McDonald's for half an hour after accusing Kamala Harris of lying about working at the fast-food joint.
Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania on September 23, Trump said Vice President Kamala Harris never worked at McDonald's like she previously claimed. The former President expressed his desire to try the job and said:
"Remember this, for a long time, she's [Kamala Harris] been talking about her experience of working at McDonald's. 'I worked at McDonald's over the french fries it's so hot.' I think I'm going to go to a McDonald's next week. I'm going to go to a McDonald's and I'm going to work the french fry job for about a half an hour. I want to see how it is."
The Republican leader continued:
"But she said she [Kamala Harris] worked and she grew up in terrible conditions. She worked at McDonald's it was said. She never worked there. And these fake news reporters never reported, 'cause that's fake. They don't wanna report it. She never worked at McDonald's. But it was a big part of her resume."
Fans took to X to react to Donald Trump's statements at the rally.
"He's obsessed with McDonald's. From Kamala in the 80's to the Big Mac orders daily, today," one X user wrote.
"How about instead, Donald tries living off the wages working the French fry job. Then he'll know how it really is," another user added.
"Just what every McDonalds manager pines for: Another employee who refuses to follow directions," a fan jibed.
"He wouldn't make it a half hour," another individual commented.
Fans continued questioning Trump's statements, while others poked fun at them.
"Why don’t you share with everyone who works there why you are against raising the minimum wage," a person wrote.
"He is really triggered by the MacDonalds thing," a netizen opined.
"This is a five year-old running for President of the United States. I don’t know about you but I’m tired of settling for this guy’s criminal activity, his lies, his grifting family, his misogynistic words, his demonization of immigrants, just the 24-7 chaos is just tearing this country apart," an individual shared.
Trump's claims came in the context of Vice President Kamala Harris's 2019 statements, where she mentioned that she had previously worked at McDonald's as a student. As per USA Today's fact-check, the Golden Arches has not made any statement confirming or denying Harris's employment with the chains.
"She must apologize to the American people for lying!"— Donald Trump accused Kamala Harris of lying about working at McDonald's
In a TruthSocial post dated September 23, Donald Trump claimed that Kamala Harris lied about working at McDonald's as a student.
"Kamala should take down and disavow all of her Statements that she worked for McDonald’s. These Statements go back a long way, and were also used openly throughout the Campaign — UNTIL SHE GOT CAUGHT. She must apologize to the American people for lying!," he wrote.
Donald Trump's statements refer to Harris's claims from her April 2019 interview on The Drew Barrymore Show. The Vice President claimed she served french fries and ice cream in the Golden Arches and later worked as a cashier at the fast-food chain.
In June 2019, Harris reiterated her claims while demanding better livable wages for workers at McDonald's.
"I worked at @McDonalds when I was a student, doing french fries and ice cream. There wasn't a family relying on me to pay the bills — but that's the reality for too many workers today," she tweeted.
"If we want to talk about those golden arches being a symbol of the best of America, well the arches are falling short. And we have got to recognize that working people deserve livable wages."
Throughout her 2024 Presidential campaign, Harris highlighted her experience of working at McDonald's, indicating that she grew up in a middle-class home. One of her campaign ads from August 10 said:
"She grew up in a middle class home. She was the daughter of a working mom. And she worked at McDonald’s while she got her degree."
After the advertisement, Trump accused Harris of lying about working at the popular fast-food joint while speaking at the Moms for Liberty convention on August 30.
“After an exhaustive study... they found out she never worked there," he said.
Speaking at the DNC convention in August, former President Bill Clinton also joked about Kamala Harris' time working at McDonald's. Clinton quipped that Harris could break his record to become the US President who spent the most time at the Golden Arches, as she has been there longer as an employee. Clinton is said to have spent a long time at the fast-food chain owing to his love for its food.
