Former president Donald Trump has become the topic of discussion online after supposedly tightening a journalist’s water bottle without her knowledge. He recently appeared at the National Association of Black Journalists press conference with ABC News’ Rachel Scott. At one point, he took her water bottle as if it were his own, and the moment went viral.
X user @acnewsitics was among the many who took to the internet to share the viral moment, saying, “Why did Trump grab her water bottle and tighten it? Yall see this?”
In the 11-second attached clip, he could be seen reaching across the table to take Scott’s water bottle when she had turned in another direction. He then twisted the cap and placed it closer to himself without drinking it.
The tweet has since amassed nearly 10 million views, with many sharing their assumptions about the viral moment online. Some reactions read:
“He literally failed a basic cognitive test on stage,” one netizen said.
“That’s really weird. Acting out his rage?” another person speculated.
What exactly the former POTUS was attempting to do remained unclear at the time of writing this article. Meanwhile, other reactions to the viral moment read:

What did Donald Trump say at the NABJ conference? Details revealed as water bottle clip goes viral
At the beginning of the conference, Rachel Scott grilled the former President about his alleged prejudice towards Black people, especially journalists. She asked him why Black voters should trust him after he has publicly attended dinners with white supremacists and has also, at one point, been racist towards Barack Obama. In response, Donald Trump said:
“Well first of all, I don’t think I’ve ever been asked the question, in such a horrible manner, first question. You don’t even say hello, how are you? And I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit.”
Donald Trump claimed that he had “done so much” for the Black community, including increasing employment through Senator Tim Scott.
In the conference, Trump attacked Kamala Harris by saying that she suddenly “became a Black woman,” which went on to be fact-checked by Scott.
He also questionably spoke about “Black jobs,” which has been condemned as racist. When Scott asked him what he meant by the same, he said it referred to “anybody that has a job- that’s what it is. They’re taking the employment away from Black people.”
Trump also claimed that he was invited to the panel under false pretenses. He said he was told that Harris would be at the convention. However, a spokesperson for the Vice President clarified with The Guardian that she could not attend the conference as she was searching for a running mate and had to attend the funeral of representative Sheila Lee Jackson.
