During a September 28 concert in Paris, Joe Jonas avoided mentioning Sean "Diddy" Combs while performing his and his band DNCE’s hit track Cake By The Ocean. He switched up the original lyrics, which referred to Diddy’s alleged relationship with supermodel Naomi Campbell, which occurred back in the 2000s.
The original lyrics read:
“Walk for me, baby/ I’ll be Diddy, you’ll be Naomi, woah-oh.”
As per US Magazine, fans online noted that Joe Jonas seemingly sang “Watts,” while referring to actress Naomi Watts instead of mentioning Diddy at all. Some also claimed that he replaced Combs’ name with “Martin.”
Joe Jonas had not explicitly stated what the changed lyrics were at the time of writing this article.
For those uninitiated, Combs and Campbell were rumored to be in a relationship back in the early 2000s. Many were under the impression that the two were romantically involved. However, Campbell stated in an interview that she had a sibling relationship with the Bad Boy Records mogul.
While speaking to AOL back in 2020, the supermodel said:
“We’ve known each other for 20-something years, and he’s been consistently the same. We really do have a brother-sister relationship, and I adore him.”
Inside Diddy’s relationship with Naomi Campbell as Joe Jonas seemingly avoids mentioning Sean Combs in hit song
Sean Combs and Naomi Campbell were spotted together for the first time in 2001 as they posed for Vogue magazine. They sparked dating rumors instantly, despite the latter being engaged to Formula One racer Flavio Briatore at that time.
Combs and Campbell were seen together multiple times since then at various parties and events.
Their relationship since then reportedly blossomed into a friendship, with Campbell also claiming to “love his demeanor” and his “company.” She also added:
“He’s very private, but people who know him know he’s loyal. He’s been loyal to me for so many years.”
As their friendship blossomed, Diddy was interviewed by Naomi in 2020 on her YouTube series No Filter With Naomi. The two discussed Combs being a father, among many other topics.
Naomi Campbell also threw him a star-studded 53rd birthday party at the LAVO restaurant in London. The event boasted guests like Janet Jackson and Idris Elba. However, a week later, Combs’ ex-girlfriend and singer Cassie Ventura came forward with s*xual trafficking and physical abuse allegations. This all supposedly led to Campbell distancing herself from him and also removing the pictures of herself alongside Combs from Instagram.
Joe Jonas is not the only singer to change the lyrics to his song due to it mentioning the disgraced star. Maren Morris and Kesha resorted to the same in their songs Rich and TikTok respectively.
Meanwhile, Diddy remains held without bail in Brooklyn as he awaits his trial date. The musician was accused of s*x trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and abusing, threatening, and coercing women for years to “fulfill his s*xual desires” as per the indictment against him.
