TikTok influencer, Emily Mariko welcomed her first child with her husband, Matt Rickard a month ago.
On July 15, 32-year-old Mariko took to her social media accounts to share that it's been a month since she welcomed her first baby with husband Matt. She shared a video of herself and her baby boy, Theodore alongside the caption:
"One month of Theodore 🧸🤎"
Mariko first announced her pregnancy on Christmas Eve last year. The Tiktoker shared an adorable video where she walked into her living room decorated for Christmas and hung two stockings as per the popular Christmas ritual. She added a third tiny stocking next to two normal-sized others, hinting at the arrival of a new family member.
Emily Mariko is best known for her unique rice bowl recipes and gained social media attention in 2021 for her popular salmon bowl recipe. The 32-year-old got married to her longtime partner, Matt Rickard in August 2023.
Emily Mariko spoke about her thoughts on pregnancy and social media hype ahead of giving birth
Ahead of giving birth to her first child, Emily Mariko shared her excitement an in exclusive interview with PEOPLE in February 2024. The influencer revealed that she was very excited about her new journey as a mother.
“I'm so excited. We're so excited. I'm feeling really good,” she said.
Speaking about how her life changed since she went viral for her salmon bowl recipe in 2021, the influencer revealed that she has gotten married and pregnant since then. While some of her routines had changed after pregnancy, some of her habits remained the same. She told PEOPLE:
“It's been a little over two years since I went viral. And since then, I've gotten engaged and gotten married and gotten pregnant. So a lot has changed in that sense. But other than that, my everyday life and my routines are pretty much the same,” she adds. “In some ways, things have changed a lot. But in others, I still feel like the same person I was pre-virality.”
Emily Mariko's viral salmon bowl recipe appealed to netizens for its uniqueness and simplicity. The bowl can be prepared by microwaving leftover salmon, white rice, and an ice cube. The influencer also added some Kewpie mayonnaise, soy sauce, and hot sauce to prepare a quick and easy rice bowl, which went viral in August 2021.
Emily Mariko revealed in her interview that most of her meal ideas, including the salmon bowl recipe are inspired by meals her mother and grandmother made when she was young. She continued:
“A lot of the comfort meals that I make, like the salmon bowl, were things that my mom had made, or my grandma had made. So a lot of inspiration comes from my everyday life.”
She also explained that despite her video going viral, she focused on creating more useful content and did not take the fame seriously. She said:
“I had my head down during the salmon bowl phase. I was focused on creating more content. I tried not to look too far around and see what was happening outside of my own kitchen.”
Emily Mariko recently collaborated with a meal-kit brand, Green Chef to launch a recipe series. The series will include perfect meal kits crafted by Mariko of various kinds, such as Chicken with Sriracha Apricot Pan Sauce and Beef Tenderloin with Brown Butter Potatoes.
Between March 4 to March 25, 2024, customers had the chance to order a meal kit from the Green Chef x Emily Mariko series and get it delivered to their doorstep. Mariko revealed her personal favorite from the series was Sockeye Salmon with Sweet Heat Pan Sauce.
“If you're like me and you like salty-sweet, I think that this one is probably the favorite. If you like my salmon bowl, you'll really like that particular dish.”
The influencer also shared her pregnancy cravings, revealing that she has been wanting to eat different kinds of sauces during this period. Most of Emily Mariko's Green Chef meals also include a particular sauce. She added:
“I have been loving sauce. And a lot of these meals have a delicious sauce that goes over the whole thing. I think even if you're not pregnant, you're going to think it's delicious.”
Emily Mariko also mentioned that her Green Chef meals could prove fruitful to her during her pregnancy as she could have them when she's too tired or does not want to cook a meal. It is a good way to get organic healthy meals without constantly traveling to the farmer's market during this time.
