The 2025 Golden Globes was a wrap, and the show's host this year, Nikki Glaser, admitted that although she got paid "pretty," it was still less than a previous male host. Following the Golden Globes on the night of Sunday, January 5, the comedian appeared on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show on Monday, January 6, to analyze her performance on the first major awards show of the year. She also teased about her salary for the 2025 Golden Globes hosting stint, saying:
"I got paid pretty, I'm good with that."
However, she compared her earnings for the night to a past male host, adding that she came up short, but wasn't too heartbroken over it. She said:
"There was a past host who said how much he got paid in his monologue and I got less than that, but that's OK. I'll get more next year."
Glaser's comment was a reference to Jerrod Carmichael who hosted the 2023 Golden Globes. He revealed during his monologue at the event that he was paid $500,000 for the hosting gig. Carmichael openly shared at the time that he had second thoughts about accepting the job because of the show's past controversy in terms of diversity, but the salary motivated him.
Although Nikki Glaser opted not to disclose the amount she was paid in the show, she clarified that her paycheck felt "well" and that it was "alright."
Nikki Glaser said she would have hosted the Golden Globes "for free"
Despite admitting that she was paid less than a past male host at the Golden Globes during her appearance on The Howard Stern Show on January 6, Nikki Glaser said that she would have accepted the gig for even less. She said:
"The first year, when you're just trying to prove yourself, I honestly would've done it for free. It's an insane platform to be on. It's not about the money for me."
Glaser isn't the first Golden Globes host who admitted that they weren't in it for the money. Back in January 2020, Ricky Gervais, who has been a past frequent host of the annual event, told The Hollywood Reporter that money wasn't a factor in his reason for accepting the hosting gig. When he was asked if he was paid a lot to do the show, he replied:
"Yeah, of course, but that's not why I do it. I've got enough f**king money. I said to my agent, 'I won't do for money anything I wouldn't do for free.' He went, 'Please don't say that ever again.'"
Speaking of hosting the Golden Globes, comedian Nikki Glaser shared some of her unaired Golden Globes jokes during her The Howard Stern Show appearance. She said that one of them was, per SiriusXM:
"The Golden Globes is the only show where you can see the biggest stars and movies and television joined together with the same goal—getting out of here tonight before Dax Shepard asked them to do his podcast. This is the last time all of you will be in the same room together until the Diddy trial."
Nikki Glaser made history on Sunday after she became the first female to host the event on her own. During her opening monologue, she poked fun at several celebrities, including Timothee Chalamet, the newly engaged Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, and Ozempic.
