American rapper Megan Thee Stallion announced she has parted ways with her record label and has gone independent. On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, her producer Max Julian, @liljumadedabeat, posted an Instagram Live video revealing the news.
In the clip, the Savage singer, who was accompanied by Max, announced that she is financing her own upcoming project, stating:
"Y'all know what’s the tea. But I have no label right now. We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So, the budget is coming from me. Motherf*cking Hot Girl Productions!"
The three-time Grammy-winning musician has been at odds with her former record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, for the last two years. She claimed that they roped her into signing an "unconscionable" record deal in 2018 when she was just starting in the industry.
In February 2022, Megan filed a case accusing the company of not qualifying her project Something For The Hotties (2021) as an album under her contract. In August 2022, she filed a claim seeking $1 million in damages after 1501 "systematically failed" to pay her loyalties, to which the company stated Megan Thee Stallion owed them “millions of dollars.”
The singer also accused 1501 and her distributor 300 Entertainment of sabotaging the promotion of her 2022 album Traumazine and allegedly blocking the American Music Awards from using her song Her to promote their show.
Supporting her decision, fans commented that they were glad Megan Thee Stallion parted ways with her former record label.

As news of Megan Thee Stallion going independent spread, internet users were quick to encourage the rapper. They stated that they would stream her new songs and added that the split was for the best as she could keep her own earnings and share her vision for the songs without compromise.
Megan Thee Stallion has not commented on the development. The musician has teased her upcoming project, "Act One," on Instagram following the legal battle with Tony Lanez.
Her former record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, and former distributor, 300 Entertainment, have not released any statements.
