Candice Miller, the well-known influencer behind the popular lifestyle blog Mama & Tata, is navigating an overwhelming financial crisis following the devastating loss of her husband, Brandon Miller, who took his life earlier this year.
According to The New York Times report on December 27, 2024, Brandon, a real estate developer in New York, died by suicide in July at the couple’s Hamptons home, leaving behind a $33.6 million debt that Candice and her family are now grappling with.
As per the publication, the real estate developer had only $8,000 in his account when he poisoned himself in the garage of his home over the Fourth of July holiday. Per the court filings, Candice Miller’s husband reportedly was in a $20 million debt, apart from another $11 million loan from the BMO Bank in Chicago and a $2 million load from the UBS Bank.
Furthermore, The New York Post reported that Candice received $15 million from her husband's insurance policies. However, the $10 million Miami Beach home she currently resides with her daughters is also on loan, as it is owned by Diane von Furstenberg’s son, Alexander von Furstenberg.
The court documents submitted state that post Candice Miller’s husband passed away by suicide, she agreed to pay off a sum of $4 million, however, the influencer and her legal team are now finding ways to settle the rest of the debt.
Candice Miller deactivated her Instagram and other social media profiles after her husband, Brandon, passed away
Candice Miller, an influencer who posted regularly about her life from her account, @MamaandTata, deactivated her account in July after Brandon passed away and has not activated it again at the time of writing. She mostly posted about her life, showing the family’s vacations as they traveled via private planes and enjoyed their properties across the country.
The Daily Beast reported that soon after Brandon passed away, Candace sold her Hamptons house, in which her husband passed away at a profit, as the house had $12 million in mortgages. However, the influencer ended up selling it for $15.5 million. Furthermore, the publication also reported that Brandon Miller’s father, Michael, also reportedly left their family in substantial debt when he passed away.
According to The Times, Candice Miller shared with friends that she was unaware of his severe financial troubles before his death, as she was never involved in the financial matters of the house.
As per the media outlet, she has also stated the same to contest a lawsuit seeking $194,881.89 in unpaid rent for the Park Avenue home in Manhattan, where the family had lived since 2021. Her lawyers argue she cannot be held responsible as she did not personally sign the lease.
While the news about Candice being in a plight due to her deceased husband’s debt has left internet users and Candice Miller’s followers in shock, the influencer has not yet released any statement addressing the matter.
