Megan Thee Stallion has been granted a five-year restraining order against Tory Lanez after alleging that the latter has been harassing her from prison, where he is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting her. The restraining order will expire on January 9, 2030, three years before Lanez will be released from prison. Netizens have since taken to social media to react to the restraining order.

On January 9, Megan Thee Stallion appeared in a video call in a Los Angeles courtroom to give an emotional testimony where she stated that she was fearful for her life, as reported by Rolling Stone.

“I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it," she said.

The musician, whose real name is Megan Pete, also accused Tory Lanez of launching a smear campaign against her with the help of “bloggers.” She then called the latter a “violent and dangerous criminal.” In a court filing, Megan claimed that she is undergoing “repeated trauma and revictimization” at the hands of Lanez. It also read:

“Even now, while behind bars, Mr. Peterson shows no sign of stopping.”

Netizens have since taken to social media to react to the restraining order.

"Is it cause he’s not guilty and he’s getting out soon?" wrote a person.

Several others expressed similar sentiments, with many seemingly siding with Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson. Comments online read:

Tory Lanez’s lawyer stated in court that the rapper has no intention to contact Megan Thee Stallion

Tory Lanez’s lawyer, Michael Hayden, said in court that the restraining order was an unfair “prior restraint” on free speech. Hayden added that Peterson has no intention to contact Megan Thee Stallion again. Hayden said in court that Peterson:

“Has no desire to communicate with the petitioner ever again.”

Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison back in December 2022 on three felony counts. This stems from the July 2020 incident where he shot Megan at her feet. In the recent court filing, she said:

“I really thought that once he got sentenced and once he went off to jail, I was going to be a new woman and I thought I was going to be great and I could just go to be the Megan Thee Stallion I always wanted to be. No, I still, everyday have to deal with people mad at me because I said what happened to me.”

She also said in court that people were shouting “Free Tory” at her during concerts. Pete said:

“I’m just a nervous wreck all the time.”

In December, Megan revealed that she was pursuing an order in relation to a larger smear campaign she believed was launched against her.
