Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel jokingly dubbed the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards "rigged" after losing to Jon Stewart in the Outstanding Talk Series category. His comments seemed to mimic former President Donald Trump's claims about the 2020 elections being rigged after he lost to Joe Biden.

On September 16, Kimmel took to X to write:

"The results of last night’s #Emmys were TOTALLY UNFAIR in the category of LATE NIt SHOW!! Sad! RIGGED!! POLSS SAY I won!!! BY a LOT! @JonStewart @StephenAtHome @SethMeyers"

Kimmel's comments clearly riffed on Trump's recurring assertions about the 2020 election and polls. The talk show host is notorious for poking fun at the MAGA leader in various instances. Fans took to X to react to Jimmy Kimmel's joke, with most playing along with his banter. One X user said:

"Do you really have a late night show? Or is it a concept of a late night show ??"

Several others expressed similar sentiments online.

"I have the ballots right here ..and you are SO right Jimmy," another user joked.

"You should hold a rally for your supporters at the Emmy's HQ. It'll be wild," a fan quipped.

"You’re so right Jimmy. I saw Jon Stewart hosting a lavish dinner party with the executives from Ernst and Young. Looked like he stuffed some ballots in their briefcases when they went to the restroom," an individual chimed in.

Kimmel's ABC talk show was nominated in the Outstanding Talk Series category, alongside The Daily Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Jon Stewart took the award home for The Daily Show, marking his first Emmy win since 2021.

Shortly after Jimmy Kimmel's ABC talk show lost to Jon Stewart's The Daily Show in the Outstanding Talk Series category, Kimmel took a light-hearted jab at Stewart.

Kimmell took the stage in the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards after the In Memoriam segment, where the event paid tribute to the late comedian and talk show host Bob Newhart. Speaking in the context of Newhart, Kimmel began:

"Bob was a humble, politely hilarious man. He got his first Emmy nomination in 1962 and did not win one until 2013, 51 years later, which is a great lesson."

Jimmy Kimmel then playfully took aim at Jon Stewart, who returned to The Daily Show nine years after he had initially left the show. He said:

"And that lesson is: Jon Stewart, you should be ashamed of yourself. You said you were retiring."

Jimmy Kimmel's jokes did not end there, as he continued to pay tribute to Bob Newhart. The talk show host joked about the legend not having "range" but instead having something much more unique for a comedian, an accounting degree.

"Those of you who knew Bob, who knew him personally knew he was exactly who you thought he was and who you hoped he would be. He did not have range. He didn't need to have range. Bob had what very few comedians have, especially today — a degree in accounting," Kimmel said.

Over the years, Kimmel's Jimmy Kimmel Live received 23 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won three of them. The talk show host has previously hosted the prestigious awards three times.
