After the Presidential elections got over with Donald Trump's win, Kamala Harris' campaign is reportedly in at least $20 million in debt, as claimed by Politico's California bureau chief Christopher Cadelago. On November 7, Cadeloago shared a tweet on X, according to which:

"Kamala Harris's campaign ended with at least $20 million in debt, per two sources familiar. Harris raised over $1 billion and had $118 million in the bank as of Oct. 16."

The alleged information soon went viral and prompted netizens to express their take on the same. Several pointed out the fact that her campaign was in debt despite raising about $1 billion for the same. Here are some popular responses found on X:

A user wrote:

"So the Kamala Harris campaign raised a billion dollars, lost, and is now $20 million in debt and trying to sell their list of supporter emails to pay that off?"
"Guess a lot of celebrities got paid off big," added a tweet.
"Looks like the Harris campaign may have been yet another money laundering scheme," wrote another one.

A lot of other X users too questioned what happened to all the money that was raised as funds. A user asked:

"WTH. What happened to all that money?"
"Come on. Seriously? How do you spend $20 MILLION you don’t have???" questioned another user.
"This is exactly how they are running the country," commented a user.

It is important to note that while Cadelago made the claims regarding the debt, there has been no confirmation about the same at the time of writing.

Matthew Boyle too alleged that Kamala Harris' campaign is in debt

The speculations of Kamala Harris' campaign being in debt didn't just end with Cadelago's claims made on X. Shortly after the tweet went viral, Breitbart's Matthew Boyle also made the same claim and even cited an anonymous "Kamala campaign staffer." In the tweet dated November 7, 2024, Boyle wrote:

"The $20 million debt thing is real. [The Harris campaign's deputy campaign manager] Rob Flaherty, this staffer said, is currently shopping around the Kamala fundraising email list to anyone who wants it to try to raise the money back. This includes other campaigns and outside groups."

According to Matthew Boyle, a Kamala campaign adviser told him that this allegedly was Jen's idea to organize the concerts which eventually led to such huge expenditure in a few months.

In Boyle's tweet, he wrote that the adviser further told him that Jen allegedly decided to focus more on the concerts and less on other types of promotion and campaigning. Further in the tweet, Boyle wrote that according to the staffer, many thought that Kamala lost as she was running Joe Biden's campaign.

Donald Trump won the elections by crossing the 270 electoral votes mark, while Harris secured only 226 votes.
