Disney has decided to shut down the doors of their luxurious hotel, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. The hotel will be going on its final journey from September 28 to September 30, 2023. Although the hotel displayed availability on its website until December 31 this year, it is scheduled to close sooner than expected.
On May 18, 2023, the decision was also disclosed to the staff. Several other bookings have been made after December 31 this year, and Disney is now calling each of those groups to inform them of the hotel's closing and to ask them to select a date before its closure.
Those who wish to book a spot won't be able to do so until May 26, 2023. Disney also shared a statement, saying that the hotel has been their most creative project and has received positive feedback from all those who have visited it over the years. They also added:
"This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we've learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans."
Why Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is shutting down?
The decision to shut down Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was taken after Disney revealed that they have no plans for the relocation of the Imagineers, cast members, and employees from California to Florida due to changes in new leadership and changing business conditions.
The company also sent an email to their employees, saying that they had canceled the plans for the construction of the Lake Nona Campus. Disney stated that they would speak to all those who have moved to Florida to see if they could return to California.
A spokesperson also spoke to CNN, saying that the decision was related to business and refusing to explain anything else about it. Moreover, Disney has not revealed anything about what they are planning to do with the hotel building.
Disney's statement expressed gratitude towards all those who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and delivered the best experiences to guests over the years and would do the same in the upcoming few months.
Disney was reportedly planning to invest around $2 billion for the construction of the two huge Star Wars parks in Florida and California, but it remains unknown if the cost of the Starcruiser building was also included in it.
Netizens react to the closure of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was loved by all those who visited the place over the years. However, they were shocked by the news of its closure and expressed dissatisfaction with the same on social media platforms:
The hotel opened in March of last year and is close to Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. The hotel was teased in 2019 at the D23 Expo of Disney.
Each day's cost for one person is roughly $1,200, while the price for a family package ranges from $4,800 to $6,000. The stay becomes attractive with sci-fi decorations, and it includes facilities like food, programming, and entertainment alongside access to the Galaxy's Edge area of Disney's theme park.
