New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny shared in a press statement on December 17 that Luigi Mangione’s mother, Kathleen Mangione, was supposedly not surprised by his actions.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg revealed that Luigi has been charged with murder as an act of terrorism following the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4. Netizens have since taken to social media to react to Kathleen’s claims.

Joseph Kenny disclosed in the press conference that Kathleen Mangione allegedly told law enforcement that the shooting “might be something that she could see him doing.” Kenny said:

“Part of that vetting process was they reached out to Mangione’s mother in San Francisco very late on the 7th. They had a conversation where she didn’t indicate that it was her son in the photograph, but she said that it might be something that she could see him doing. So that information was going to be passed along to the detectives.”

Kathleen Mangione had also filed a missing persons report on her son, Luigi Mangione, on November 18 in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, netizens took to social media to react to Kathleen Mangione allegedly saying that she was not surprised by the shooting allegedly carried out by her son. Reacting to the same, one person said:

A tip the San Francisco police received led to the arrest of Luigi Mangione

Joseph Kenny revealed in the press conference that a San Francisco police sergeant working on a missing case saw a photo of Luigi Mangione and shared the same with San Francisco’s FBI office. As per Kenny, the police officer said:

“Hey, basically, I’m working on a missing case. I saw the photograph that was distributed by the NYPD, there bears a resemblance.”

The tip was then forwarded to the NYPD and was vetted by them, subsequently leading to Mangione being caught in a McDonald’s on December 9.

Luigi Mangione has been charged with gun possession, forgery, murder, and other charges. He is fighting extradition while he remains in Pennsylvania. According to NBC News, Luigi’s attorney stated that he will not be pleading guilty.

Meanwhile, the Mangione family released a statement on Facebook following his arrest. Luigi's cousin, Nino Mangione, a Republican Maryland State Delegate, posted on his Facebook page, stating:

“Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson, and we ask that people pray for Luigi. We are devastated by the news.”

Kathleen Mangione herself had not released any statement at the time of writing this article.
