Elon Musk's estranged daughter, Vivian Wilson, has publicly condemned her father after he made a controversial post on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting he would give Taylor Swift a child. Musk's bizarre remarks came after Taylor Swift publicly supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
Vivian, who came out as transgender in 2022, voiced her disgust on Threads on Wednesday, September 11. The 20-year-old did not mince her words and described her father's comments as "abhorrent". She wrote:
"I saw the "Tweet". Heinous incel nonsense is in fact Heinous incel nonsense. I don't really have anything to add, it's just abhorrent."
Vivian Wilson calls out Musk's behavior
Vivian Wilson first addressed Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris on Threads and wrote:
"The timing for the Taylor Swift endorsement of Kamala Harris honestly could not have been better. Can't wait to see the Swifties at the polls! Vote blue."
Her post praised Swift's political stance and rallied support for Harris. Vivian Wilson followed up with a more personal statement targeting Musk's behavior. She acknowledged having seen Musk's now-infamous post and described his remarks as "heinous incel nonsense".
Vivian made it clear that she found her father's remarks not just inappropriate but emblematic of a broader issue of misogyny.
The term "incel" refers to men who harbor hostility toward women, particularly those they deem unattainable. Vivian Wilson used this term to describe her father's post, which many found distasteful.
While she has distanced herself from Musk, Vivian Wilson felt compelled to address the issue, particularly as her father's behavior continues to draw attention.
"I really am not the biggest fan of this subject. I am my own person with my own name after all. However, I just feel like that had to be said even if it’s incredibly self-evident. Cheers," she wrote.
The controversy began when Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election via an Instagram post. In her message, the Grammy-winning artist expressed her support for Harris and Democratic Governor Tim Walz, signing off with the phrase "Childless Cat Lady."
This was a nod to comments made by Republican Party's vice presidential candidate JD Vance, who once accused "childless cat ladies" in leadership positions of making bad policies for Americans.
Elon Musk, who is known for his vocal support of Donald Trump, responded to Swift's endorsement in a manner that sparked widespread criticism. He tweeted:
"Fine Taylor…you win…I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life."
Musk's relationship with his daughter Vivian has been strained for years. In July, he publicly stated that his daughter had been "killed by the woke-mind virus," expressing regret over her gender reassignment. Vivian legally changed her name and gender in June 2022, formally severing ties with Musk by taking her mother's surname, Wilson.
The 2024 US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. The Democratic Party has endorsed incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, while the Republican Party nominated former President and convicted felon Donald Trump.
Voter turnout and endorsements from high-profile figures, like Taylor Swift, are expected to play significant roles in the outcome.
