Outgoing President Joe Biden sparked concerns about his health after his appearance at a White House event on January 2, 2025. The 82-year-old president hosted a celebration to commemorate 235 federal judges appointed during his terms, thus creating history with this new record.
During his speech at the celebration, the outgoing president claimed that his appointed judges will uphold the judicial system in the face of a government change after President-elect Trump takes office this month.
However, several eagle-eyed netizens noticed that Biden had a mysterious blue mark on his hand. Speculation about the mark's origin circulated on social media, with one netizen questioning:
"IV infusion?"
Many agreed with this sentiment, theorizing that the mark looked like an IV infusion bruise.
"Looks like an I.V. bruise to me," one person tweeted.
"IV bruise...mystery solved," another person claimed.
"From injection maybe?" someone else wondered.
However, others claimed it was common for old people to have spots on their skin, pointing out the president was in his 80s.
"Isn’t it common for old people to get dark spots on their hands?" one user questioned.
"That’s just old people hands dude," someone else added.
"He's OLD. Those are AGE spots. Everyone his age has them," another user posted.
Joe Biden said he was "proud of the legacy" after his record number of judicial confirmations
On January 2, President Joe Biden hosted an event to celebrate his appointment of a record 235 judges during his four-year term at the White House, surpassing Trump's previous record by one.
The outgoing president was joined by Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer at the celebration. In a speech to mark the record, Joe Biden said he was "proud of the legacy" his government left behind.
“I’m proud of the legacy that we’ll leave for our nation as it relates to judges. I really think we’ll be proud of these women and men that have been appointed, and I think we’re going to reestablish the safeguards that are built into the Constitution," he said.
He added that "judges matter" to help shape citizens' lives by protecting their basic freedom.
“Judges matter. Shaping everyday lives of Americans, protecting our basic freedoms — I never thought we’d be talking about this — defending constitutional liberties. Respecting the idea [of] precedent matters.”
Other concerns about Joe Biden's health
This is not the first time Joe Biden has sparked health concerns. According to The Daily Mail, many netizens noticed the outgoing president had a mark on his lip during a recent event, leading to speculations about his overall health.
His health was also a major talking point during the 2024 election, with many Democrats urging him to drop out of the race due to his age. At 82, he recently made history as the oldest sitting president.
Joe Biden's performance at the June debate against Trump also left many voters rethinking their support for him. According to the BBC, a poll hosted after the debate showed that 72% of Democratic voters believed Biden did not have the "mental and cognitive health" to serve as president for the next four years.
Weeks after the debate, Joe Biden pulled out of the race, casting his endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate. However, Harris suffered a loss in the 2024 election after her opponent Donald Trump won both the electoral and popular vote and swept all seven swing states.
