In a surprising and light-hearted twist, netizens have found an unexpected connection between JD Vance, the vice presidential candidate for Donald Trump, and pop star Miley Cyrus.

On October 2, 2024, after a highly anticipated vice-presidential debate on CBS News, eagle-eyed viewers took to social media to point out an amusing resemblance between Vance’s expression and a familiar look from the pop singer's past. The users on X (formerly Twitter) drew an uncanny resemblance between Vance's and Cyrus's eyes:

"JD Vance got those Miley Cyrus eyes," one X user wrote.
"Vance has Miley Cyrus eyes," another commented on X.

Many users on X suggested that JD Vance has been wearing eyeliner like Miley Cyrus.

"why is jd vance serving miley cyrus smokey eyeliner," a user said.
"i’m so sleepy that this pic of miley cyrus kinda resembles vance," another user commented.
"Eyeliner Miley + Ptown Bear Week = JD Vance," one more viewer stated on X.

However, some users on X expressed that they did not think the comparison was appropriate, offering light-hearted objections and playfully criticizing what they viewed as unfair.

"Now I know y’all ain’t gonna do my girl Miley like that comparing her worst to Vance. I will not stand for this false equivalency," one user wrote.

Despite the viral attention, neither the Vance nor the Donald Trump campaigns have officially commented on the comparisons. Miley Cyrus herself has not addressed the internet's take on the debate.

A brief on JD Vances' vice presidential debate

On October 1, a VP debate was conducted between Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walz. According to the BBC, the debate was polite and respectful and lacked heated exchanges. Furthermore, the two focused on essential issues currently relevant to American voters, such as the economy, healthcare, and national security.

Vance reflected on his comments on reproductive rights, suggesting that he considers this as a "health concern" and further added that he wants mothers to afford to have babies easily:

"This is about health care. I just want to make it easier for mums to afford to have babies."

During a conversation with Megyn Kelly in July 2024, Vance gave a similar statement suggesting that they want to make reproductive rights easier for mothers and fathers:

"Of course, we want to make it easier for moms and dads to choose life if, of course, they're in a terrible situation where they have fertility problems. I believe babies are a profound moral good."

Democratic VP candidate Tim Walz also reflected on reproductive rights suggesting that a project titled "Project 2025" will aim to track or monitor pregnancies through a registry for better living.

"If you don’t know [women like this], you soon will. Their Project 2025 is going to have a registry of pregnancies," Walz said.

He further noted the maternal deaths in Texas and suggested that it is "human right" to feel safe and adequate:

"This is basic human rights. We have seen maternal mortality skyrocket in Texas, outpacing many other countries in the world."

As per CBS, reproductive rights and IVF (In vitro fertilization) gained political attention in February 2024 when the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos could be classified as children. This decision prompted providers in the state to temporarily suspend the IVF procedure. As a response, many Republicans, including Donald Trump, voiced this issue. The former President had stated that he would " strongly support the availability of IVF."

Moreover, according to Sky News, Vance is the most interviewed Vice President of the four presidential candidates or running mates this year. The senator regularly appears on television in the United States.

The United States presidential elections will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
