Jodie Turner-Smith has recently alleged that her estranged husband, Joshua Jackson, has not fulfilled his financial obligations for child and spousal support since their public separation in October 2023. First reported by TMZ on December 23, 2024, the 38-year-old claimed that Jackson owes her retroactive payments and additional fees to ensure financial stability for their 4-year-old daughter, Juno.
As per People's December 24 report, Turner-Smith filed court documents in Los Angeles County Superior Court stating that Jackson has not paid any child support since she filed for divorce last year. She is seeking $8,543 per month in retroactive child support and $28,641 per month in spousal support, both dating back to October 2023.
Additionally, Jodie Turner-Smith has requested $250,000 from Jackson to cover her attorney fees and the costs associated with their ongoing legal battle.
Jodie Turner-Smith's allegations and financial demands
The Agency actress claimed that Jackson promised to provide financial security for her and their daughter, particularly if they ever separated. She alleged,
"Josh promised to always support me and ensured me that I would not have to worry about financial security for our daughter if we ever separated because he said he understood how difficult life can be as a Black woman and a single mother."
Jodie Turner-Smith’s filing highlights a shift in her stance, as she had initially requested spousal support be waived, as per TMZ. She now argued that Jackson has been a successful actor for over 30 years and earned significantly more than her during their four-year marriage. She also stated that she took on a larger role in raising their daughter while Jackson advanced his acting career, as per People.
Turner-Smith added in the documents that all she wants is to be able to purchase a home in Los Angeles and support her daughter.
She also accused Jackson of prolonging the divorce process and incurring additional legal expenses by seeking sole custody of their daughter.
According to an ABC article published on October 2, 2023, Jodie Turner-Smith filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences" and listing their date of separation as September 13, 2023. The former couple, who married in August 2019, welcomed their daughter in April 2020.
Turner-Smith has requested joint custody of Juno, emphasizing the importance of co-parenting despite their legal disagreements.
In an October 2024 interview with Glamour, Turner-Smith discussed the complexities of co-parenting post-separation. She said:
"It’s an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone, because you’re used to being with your child all the time. But nobody hands you a manual. Everyone’s trying to figure it out. Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives, it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to coparent."
While Jodie Turner-Smith has been vocal about her experiences, Jackson has remained relatively silent on the divorce proceedings. However, in a September 2024 interview with Us Weekly, Jackson shared the 'best thing' about being a father, stating, "It’s every single day. She [Juno] is a joy."
He highlighted that his parenting priorities influenced his decision to take on lighter acting roles, which would allow him to spend more time at home.
Jackson’s representatives have not responded to the recent allegations. Meanwhile, Jodie Turner-Smith remains focused on her acting career, with recent roles in projects such as The Acolyte. She has expressed her commitment to balancing her career and motherhood, as she navigates single parenthood. Jackson, on the other hand, continues his role in Doctor Odyssey.
