Blake Lively received a wave of support after she filed a complaint against her It Ends With Us co-star and the movie's director, Justin Baldoni, on December 20, 2024. The lawsuit comes several months after rumors of on-set drama between them, and it accuses Baldoni of s*xual harassment and a subsequent smear campaign.
Actor Amber Heard, who underwent a defamation trial against her ex-husband, Hollywood star Johnny Depp, has now spoken up about the alleged bad press she faced during the trial. For the unversed in the Lively vs. Baldoni complaint, Lively alleged that Baldoni hired a crisis communication team against her, including the PR crisis manager Melissa Nathan, the same person Depp hired during his defamation trial against Heard. The Aquaman actor told NBC News on Monday, December 23:
"Social media is the absolute personification of the classic saying "A lie travels halfway around the world before truth can get its boots on.' I saw this firsthand and up close. It's as horrifying as it is destructive."
At the time of Heard's case, a jury unanimously found that it was Heard who defamed Depp, awarding him $5 million in punitive damages and $10 million in compensation.
Following Amber Heard's support for Blake Lively, netizens are divided on whether Heard supporting Lively is a good thing or not. One X user remarked that it is more damaging for Lively to get Heard's support and wrote:
"Just turned half of the internet against BL...."
Some netizens argued that Heard's support was the "worst possible" one Lively could get, while others pointed out that Heard lost her defamation suit.
"This is the worst possible endorsement you could have lol," an X user remarked.
"Aw sh*t that's the wrong person to have in your corner she lost her case," an X user added.
"Amber isn't helping. She was proven in a court of law to have defamed Depp with her lies—and the verdict is now set forever. Most likely, Amber wants the attention for herself," another X user commented.
However, other netizens think it's a good thing to see Heard support Lively, because, as one commenter pointed out, she had experienced being called a liar by the media.
"It's really nice to see women supporting women. From the cast of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and now to Amber Heard, I love it," an X user commented.
"Amber knows what it's like to be told she's a liar by the media, they need to stick together," another person wrote.
Amber Heard is one of the stars to show support for Blake Lively amid her lawsuit against Justin Baldoni
Amber Heard is the latest celebrity who has publicly supported Blake Lively amid her s*xual harassment complaint against Justin Baldoni. Lively's former castmates in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel, put out a joint Instagram statement on Sunday, December 22, in support of their "sister" Blake.
They praised Blake for summoning "the courage to ask for a safe workplace" throughout the filming of It Ends With Us. They also called out Baldoni's camp's "unabashed exploitation of domestic violence survivors' stories to silence a woman who asked for safety."
It Ends With Us author, Colleen Hoover, also shared her support for Lively shortly after the complaint was made public. She shared an Instagram story saying that Lively has been "nothing but honest, kind, supportive, and patient".
Director Paul Feig, who worked with Lively in A Simple Favor, also shared a post on X, saying how "awful" it was to have the actor "put through this." He called Lively the "most professional, creative, collaborative, talented, and kind" person he's worked with.
The legal complaint Blake Lively filed on December 20, 2024, also accuses lead producer and Wayfarer CEO Jamey Heath of s*xual harassment.
