The ongoing legal drama between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively has been the talk of the town lately. While Blake sued Baldoni and his team for s*xual harassment, the 40-year-old actor's lawyer Bryan Freedman claimed that his client would file a counter-suit against her.
Meanwhile, fans noticed that Ryan Reynolds possibly took a dig at Justin in Deadpool & Wolverine. Baldoni's lawyer Bryan Freedman further commented on it. Freedman told Megyn Kelly on January 7:
"What I make of that is that if your wife is s*xually harassed, you don't make fun of Justin Baldoni. You don't make fun of the situation. You take it very seriously, you file HR complaints, you raise the issue and you follow a legal process. What you don't do is mock the person and turn it into a joke."
Freedman further mentioned that he was sure that the character was based on Baldoni, given the references.
Deadpool & Wolverine hit the theaters a few weeks before It Ends With Us was released. Fans pointed out that the character Nicepool in Ryan's movie greatly resembled Justin Baldoni. According to the netizens, the character had a man bun, which Justin Baldoni wore for several years until 2023.
In a particular scene in the movie, Nicepool refers to Ladypool, portrayed by Blake Lively, while talking to Deadpool and Wolverine, and says:
"Oh my goodness, wait til you've seen Ladypool. She is gorgeous. She just had a baby too and [you] can't even tell."
Deadpool, played by Reynolds then responded by saying that Nicepool probably shouldn't be talking that way. To this, Nicepool said that it was fine since he "identified as a feminist."
According to Bryan Freedman, s*xual harassment shouldn't be a topic of joke and should be taken seriously. While both Freedman and several fans speculated that Nicepool resembled Justin Baldoni, there has been no official confirmation of the same.
In Justin Baldoni's lawsuit against The New York Times, he claimed that Blake Lively constantly tried making changes to the movie
While Baldoni's attorney claimed that he was planning to file a counter-suit against Blake Lively, nothing has been done as of now. However, Baldoni had made accusations against the actress in the lawsuit against The New York Times. One of his allegations against her included that she had never read It Ends With Us and insisted on making multiple changes in the film.
He also made claims about Blake's husband Ryan Reynolds. According to Baldoni, Ryan "aggressively berated" him over a misunderstanding about fat-shaming, as per reports by Forbes dated January 8, 2025.
The suit further described Blake's behavior as a "pattern of vindictiveness." According to the lawsuit, Ryan who has been described as a "powerful 'untouchable' Hollywood elite", attempted to influence talent agency WME to get rid of Justin Baldoni.
On January 7, Bryan Freedman also told Megyn Kelly that Blake Lively was not s*xually harassmed on the set by Baldoni, and was leading an alleged "smear campaign" against the actor. Further updates on the suits filed by each party are awaited.
