Actor Justin Long appeared on the PIE With Kurt Sutter and Katey Sagal podcast on July 16, 2024. During the episode, he spoke about a time when he got food poisoning that took a particularly unpleasant turn. He told the hosts about how his wife, Kate Bosworth, wasn't deterred by the state he was in.
Long told the hosts that he and Kate were on a trip to Mexico City in early June 2024, and got severe food poisoning. The incident was both unfortunate and comical, Justin said, as he added that there was an embarrassing moment that tested their bond. He explained that he was so severely unwell, he had to be hooked up to an IV and Kate had to follow him to the bathroom with it.
"It was like Dumb and Dumber. I was just, like, really comically unloading, and then, at one point that night, I woke up, and… There's no other way to say this. I can't dance around it: I had s--t the bed."
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Bosworth, 41, remained supportive throughout the ordeal.
Justin Long describes a romantic and challenging moment
Justin Long's account of his ordeal in Mexico City didn't just stop at the embarrassing details. The incident also highlighted the affection and care shown by his wife, Kate Bosworth. Long described Bosworth's reaction to the situation as "really romantic."
Long recalled how Bosworth nursed him back to health, describing the scene vividly. He mentioned that she was only a couple of feet away from him, holding the IV bag with great patience and reassuring him that everything was fine. He then told the hosts that in that moment, he thought about how much he loved her.
And I thought about how much I loved her. I was like: 'I just love this person, I’m so grateful to this person'," the Barbarian actor said.
Long also said that he was in awe of Bosworth's kindness because she was not judgmental and didn't make her husband feel weird or bad.
"I was shitting my brains out, and she was looking at me lovingly, and I thought: 'This is really romantic.'"
Justin Long and Kate Bosworth were in Mexico City as ambassadors for Smile Train, a charity dedicated to helping children with cleft lips and palates. In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, Long shared details about his food poisoning incident, expressing his gratitude towards Bosworth for taking over when he became too sick to help.
He described his wife Kate as incredible, noting how she took charge and managed everything like a true champion. The He's Not Just That Into You star said that he was grateful that his illness only lasted a day.
Justin Long then expressed appreciation for the medical staff, remarking that his sickness coincided with their scheduled hospital visit. He also highlighted the high standards and excellent care given to him by the doctors and nurses. He acknowledged that he directly benefited from the critical funding Smile Train provides to the hospital.
Justin and Kate got married in a quiet ceremony in May 2023, at the Rockaway Hotel in New York City's Queen's District. Justin Long shared the news on the May 29, 2023, episode of his podcast, Life Is Short. The couple announced the wedding just one month after announcing their engagement. Bosworth debuted her engagement ring at the Vanity Fair Oscars party, a very short time after their engagement announcement.
