Canna Coffee, a popular eatery from Adams Moragn in Washington, D.C., went viral after its owner yelled at an UberEats driver to "learn English." The owner's racist comments to the driver went viral on social media, and just a few days later, the café was shut down by local authorities.

The video, which was first shared on TikTok, showed the café's owner yelling at the UberEats driver, Gregorio Amundarian to learn English. The man repeatedly shouted at Gregorio that the US wasn't his country before telling him to "learn English." According to some reports, the owner of Canna Coffee continued yelling at the driver outside the store.

The Canna Coffee owner continues yelling "Learn English" at Gregorio before telling him that since he makes money in the US, he should know the language.

“Learn English! Learn it! You make money in America, learn English! This ain’t your f–king country!” the man yells.

The UberEats driver, Gregorio Amundarain, claimed that he made a complaint with the Washington, D.C., Police about the discrimination he faced at Canna Coffee. The police inspected the café on September 11, 2024, before visiting it and reportedly finding several violations. They claimed that these violations were the reasons behind Canna Coffee being shut down until further notice.

News of the café being shut down soon made its way to social media, with many posting about it to X. People took to the social media platform to comment under PopCrave's post about it, with one person claiming that "karma is quick sometimes."

“Damn karma is quick sometimes,” the user said.

Others also bashed the cafe's owner for "being xenophobic and racist," while others stated that the driver didn't "deserve" the treatment he got.

“You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. That’s what he gets for being xenophobic and racist!” wrote one netizen.
“He’s saying “learn English” when most Americans only speak ONE language. While in other countries most civilians know at least THREE languages. If you’re an American and not bilingual then.. that’s a skill issue,” added another X user on the post.
“Whoo! When Karma and FAFO link up, it’s truly a party. It’s well deserved,” mentioned another social media user.
“This situation highlights the importance of adhering to health regulations, especially after public controversies,” suggested another.
“Despite not speaking English, this man is working & contributing to society. He did not deserve this treatment,” exclaimed an internet user.
“Deserved. Xenophobia should not be tolerated,” said another one.

UberEats driver files complaint against Canna Coffee for discrimination

Although the UberEats driver, Gregorio Amundarain, initially shared the video of Canna Café's owner yelling at him on TikTok, it soon went viral across platforms.

The owner of the cafe went on a racist rant against Gregorio, asking him to "learn English," while hurling racial slurs at him. The man also misbehaved with Amundarain, as he slammed the brown paper bag into his chest repeatedly.

Speaking to Fox 5, Amundarain stated that he moved from Venezuela to the USA to have a better income and support his family. He also stated that he started recording the video for his own safety, as the owner of Canna Coffee was agitated from the beginning. Gregorio then conveyed to the outlet that he had already filed a complaint with the police.

Amundarain spoke about the other man's treatment of him, stating that there "was no need" for him to be treated "disrespectfully."

As he filed a formal complaint to the police, UberEats immediately removed and banned Canna Coffee from the platform for the owner's racist comments. They also posted a statement on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, claiming that they were also "working to check in" on Gregorio's well-being.

“We are disgusted by the behavior in this video. Hate has no place on our platform, and we have removed this business from our app," the statement read.

The New York Post reported that the café was under investigation for the last few months. The DC Department of Health and Food and the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection had been investigating it.

At the time of writing this article, the owner of the café has not yet commented on the situation.
